The Port Alberni Branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association, a non-profit Association, is seeking a Program Manager.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Program Manager is responsible to provide effective leadership for the direct oversight of CMHA programs and services, responsible for the development and delivery of the Clubhouse Program, and to develop respectful community and funder relationships.

  • Operational planning and management - Oversee the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the Clubhouse within an International Centre for Clubhouse Development model of psycho-social rehabilitation, as well as indirect oversight of the other programs in the Association
  • Leadership – ensures the nation-wide strategic plan is implemented as well as direct implementation of CMHA-PA’s local strategic plan.
  • Supervisory – Day to day supervision of the Clubhouse Generalists and indirect supervision of all other CMHA-PA Program Coordinators.
  • Program planning and management - Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of the Clubhouse and the Association's other programs
  • Financial planning and management monitors comprehensive budgets and secures sponsorship to support local activities as needed
  • Human resources planning and management - Determine staffing requirements for program delivery, implementing practices as dictated by the Association’s Policies and Procedures, as well as the Collective Agreement

Working Conditions

  • The position is located at 3178 – 2nd Avenue, Port Alberni BC
  • The regular work week consists of 35 hours with normal office hours between 9:00 and 4:00
  • This is an excluded, management position and is not subject to regular overtime policies. Work is performed based on the demands of the job, which may include weekends and evenings.

Qualifications 

Position Qualifications and Experience:

  • University education in social sciences or related field.
  • Knowledge and skills in the areas of; labour management in a unionized environment, employee skill development in all aspects of service delivery in mental health and addictions, grant writing, fundraising  
  • A minimum of 5 years in a progressive senior leadership role in a non-profit Association
  • Knowledge of leadership and management principles as they relate to non-profit Associations
  • Knowledge of current community challenges and opportunities relating to the mission of the Association
  • Awareness and working practice of trauma informed care, cultural sensitivity, gender identity issues, harm reduction, recovery focus, collaboration, inclusion, member focused, best practices
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to speak, listen and write effectively
  • Knowledge of MS Office and typical computer software programs, internet, social media
  •  Proven ability to establish and maintain successful partnerships within the community.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position

  • Must be organized and able to set priorities under pressures of competing requirements.
  • Plan: Ability to determine strategies to move the Association forward, set goals, create and implement actions plans, and evaluate the process and results.
  • Ability to think strategically and solve problems based on the trends and conditions of the environment, and the visions and values of the Association.
