The Visitor Information Counsellor is responsible for maintaining the day-to-day operations of the Visitor Centre under the direction of the Visitor Centre Supervisor. This includes ensuring that the Visitor Centre is represented to the public in a pleasing, organized and professional manner. Full training for this position is provided upon commencement of employment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist visitors in a professional, prompt and friendly manner via email, phone, mail, in person
  • Research relevant community information (events, services, facilities) that may be of interest to visitors
  • Keep brochure racks and storage organized and well-stocked. Re-order brochures when necessary
  • Maintain and update files and reference materials for the Visitor Centre on a continual basis
  • Post current information of interest to the visitor (Road Reports, Chamber of Commerce updates, Member info, Tourist Alerts, Weather, Fisheries, etc.)
  • Assist visitors with accommodations, tours, ferry reservations etc. in response to visitor requests as needed/requested
  • Make sales transactions for merchandise sold in the Visitor Centre
  •  Keep up-to-date and organized daily statistics
  • Provide visitor services at special events or festivals throughout the season
  • Assist the Visitor Centre Supervisor with other day-to-day administrative duties such as filing, correspondence, mail outs, website research and fulfilling Tofino Discovery Guide requests
Qualifications 

Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:

  • Candidate must be extremely outgoing and enthusiastic
  • Candidate must have knowledge of attractions and tourism products/services in the Tofino area and Vancouver Island
  • Must work well independently as well as part of a team
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills, customer service skills, telephone and organizational abilities
  • Access to a vehicle is preferred-ability to drive standard would be a strong asset
  • Good working knowledge of computers, specifically Microsoft Office, internet search engines and social media
  • Some weekend work required
  • Some lifting and moving of boxes and equipment; equipment setup sometimes required
  • Second language an asset

Terms

  • Preference will be given to qualified local candidates residing in the Tofino-Long Beach area
  • Position is based on 16-20 hours per week Nov – April; becoming 37.5 hours per week, May – Oct
  • Work is to be performed primarily from the Tourism Tofino Cox Bay Visitor Centre
  • A 3-month probationary period and evaluation for new employees is required
  • Extended Health Benefits are available after 3 months of full-time employment
  • The BC Employment Standards Branch sets all other terms of reference unless otherwise specified
