The Wild Pacific Trail Society is seeking an engaging, energetic and self-confident student to fill this position.    
As a Trail Ambassador, the student will be based outdoors on the Wild Pacific Trail, actively interacting with visitors to the Ucluelet area.    

The position is 40 hours per week from mid-May to the end of August.   Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old and be currently enrolled full-time in a recognized post-secondary education program with the intent to return to their academic studies in September 2018. Wage is $14 to $15/hour depending on qualifications.    

Please Note:  Living accommodations are not provided, successful candidate is responsible in securing his/her own residence.  

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Provide a friendly presence on the trail, welcoming visitors, responding to questions, offering orientation and general information.
  • Develop and deliver educational programming about the natural history and environment of the west coast. • Conduct/lead nature guided walks on various sections of the trail.
  • Enhance visitors’ environmental awareness and stewardship.   
  • Assist with exhibit /display development including the designing of props and teaching aids.
  • Support the promotion of the trail through the distribution of marketing materials.
  • Research and develop curriculum for the Trail’s Ambassador program. 

 

Qualifications 
  • Enrollment in a post-secondary program in natural sciences, education, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of local history, ecology and communities.
  • Self-motivated, demonstrates initiative, ability to work alone and in teams
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
  • History as a resident of the Ucluelet-Long Beach area is an asset.
  • Current First Aid & Valid Driver’s License is an asset.
