Job Summary

The Program Administrator of Lands, Public Works and Resources will report to the Toquaht Director of Lands, Public Works and Resources. This position will support the administration and program operations of the department of Lands, Public Works and Resources; we will work to build on your skills, experience, background, and interests towards the efficient implementation of our many programs. There will be opportunities for training and personal growth.

This position works mainly out of the Toquaht Nation Government Office in Ucluelet, but is required to be out in the field reviewing land and resource impacts, as well as matters related to public works infrastructure maintenance, inspections, and development from time to time. You can expect some travel to Macoah, Port Alberni and beyond for meetings or other work. Travel or out of office programing offers some flexibility in regards to work schedules.

Office work requires detailed attention and interpretation of land maps, surveys and other official documents and records. The scope of administrative support responsibilities is diverse and mental stress may be a factor when dealing with research and fact-finding as well as with operational concerns.

Qualifications 
  • Grade 12 equivalence, with post-secondary certificates or other training related to Land and Natural Resource management, Environmental Protection, Forestry, Fish and Wildlife, Land Mapping, Surveying Community or Public Works Planning/Administration.
  • 1-3 years of relevant work administering Land Use referrals, records, documentation, permits in a First Nation community environment.
  • First Nations heritage preferred, together with an understanding of Toquaht cultural beliefs, customs and core values.
  • Knowledgeable of the processes associated with Land Plans, Land Titles and defining of areas for residential, commercial and industrial use.
  •  An aptitude to conduct detailed and observant research of maps, charts, titles, registries, etc.
  • High level of competency with use of computer systems.
  •  Good communication skills; able to effectively and clearly communicate detailed information on document and research findings.
  • Good time management skills; able to independently plan, coordinate and follow up a variety of Lands, Public Works and Resources program needs and schedules.
  • Well-developed writing skills; capable of preparing detailed reports.
  • A demonstrated ability to administer confidential matters with integrity and professionalism.

The preferred candidate will be reliable, open to learning, and respectful to their colleges. Preference will be given to candidates who are Toquaht citizens, Toquaht community members, or Indigenous peoples.
