POSITION: Alberni Children First Network Community Coordinator

Do you have the personality to build grassroots networks, coalitions, collaborations and partnerships among Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities?

 

United Way Central & Northern Vancouver Island (UWCNVI) in partnership with the Alberni Children First Network (ACFN) is seeking a professional Community Developer to implement the Success by 6® and Make Children First initiatives in the Alberni Valley.

 

Success by 6® United Way Central & Northern Vancouver Island (UWCNVI) is part of a provincial movement that advocates for the healthy development of children and families. We partner with the Credit Unions of British Columbia and the Ministry of Children and Family Development on this initiative. 

 

The ACFN Coordinator supports a community Network that brings together stakeholders, ECD service providers and others to create positive change in the healthy growth, development and learning of young children (0-6 years) and their families in the Alberni Valley.

 

This role requires weekly travel within the Alberni Valley and occasional travel to attend SBY6 professional development or networking events elsewhere on the Island or on the Lower Mainland.

 

Qualifications 

Required Qualifications and Experience: Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent related training with knowledge of early childhood development and current issues. Experience in community development, project management and group facilitation with effective written and verbal communication and public speaking skills. Proven experience in collective strategic planning. Experience working within Indigenous communities and with cultural protocols. Knowledgeable and efficient with computers and social media. Previous fundraising, grant proposal writing, marketing and media experience is preferred. Valid driver’s license with access to a vehicle.

 

This term position is funded by annually renewed MCFD/SBY6 funding for that given year. Renewal of this position is dependant upon receiving funding each year.

 

The SBY6 Community Coordinator will work 28 hours per week over 42 weeks during the 2018-2019 fiscal year (April 2018 – March 2019).
