Child & Youth Cultural Support Worker (Summer Student Position)

This position will be directly accountable to the Assistant Executive Director and Childcare Centre Manager.

Purpose

To train and provide work experience for one Aboriginal Student who will be assisting with youth and children’s programs

Tasks

These students will assist with Youth and Children’s programming by providing support in developing and initiating of activities.  Activities will include:  Youth drop-in, field trips, camp outs, summer programs, arts and crafts, recreational and sports activities, support groups, educational workshops, family events and cultural celebrations.  These students will be knowledgeable of First Nations culture and be able to assist in culturally related activities.

Requirements

• MUST be an Aboriginal Youth between the ages of 15 & 30 years of age
• MUST have been a full time student of 2017-18 and returning to school in the Fall of 2018
• MUST provide current school transcripts
• Preference will be given to Post Secondary but will consider High School Grade 12 students
• Individual should have good communication skills and enjoy working with children and youth
• Must be highly motivated, flexible, patient, understanding and personable
• Computer skills considered and asset; a driver’s license is prefer
• It would be important to be able to work independently and in a team setting
• Must be flexible and be willing to work evenings and weekends.
• Must be able to submit to a criminal record check and a driver’s abstract if applicable

Salary - $11.35 / hour for 35 hours per week
