Island Work Transitions, Inc. (IWT) provides WorkBC Employment Services to communities in the Alberni-Clayoquot region, as a subcontractor to Central Vancouver Island Job Opportunities Building Society (CVIJOBS) in Parksville-Qualicum.

IWT is looking to hire a full time Resource Centre Advisor to provide front line support for our Port Alberni office.

Under the general direction of the IWT management team, the role of Resource Centre Advisors is to:

  • Provide intake and reception services.
  • Oversee the Self-Serve Resource Centre (job seeker computer lab).
  • Assist clients with registering for and applying for employment services through the provincial Online Employment Services Portal.
  • Assess client needs and refer to employment counselling services and other community resources as appropriate, according to their individual needs and eligibility.
  • Provide awareness and navigation support to clients on available employment resources, supports and services.
  • Supply information on job opportunities, community services, labour market information, and employment resource materials to groups or one on one.
  • Assist clients with using office equipment for job searching, resume/cover letter writing, and accessing job search and employment-focused workshops.
  • Facilitate small scale job search and employment-related workshops.
  • Post, edit and update our online job board with local job postings.
  • Manage IWT’s web presence/social media, updating online content regularly.

 

Qualifications 

Key Requirements:

  • Must have an acceptable criminal record (Criminal Record Check is required for all staff), and be able to work in the vulnerable peoples sector.
  • Grade 12 completion.
  • Experience providing customer service and resolving issues, both in person and in a virtual service delivery environment.
  • Experience working with individuals with complex barriers and a broad range of cultural backgrounds.
  • Exceptional organization and customer service skills.
  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office, database systems, email and Internet.
  • Proven teamwork skills which demonstrate collaboration, flexibility, and respectful relations with others.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with participants, co-workers and community partners.
  • Highly developed written communication skills, with a command of English sufficient to create, edit and proofread flawless resumes and cover letters
  • Skilled in assertiveness and conflict management; able to deal with challenging client behaviour in a calm, empathetic, firm, and professional manner.

Preferred:

  • Post-secondary certificate or diploma in a social service field.
  • Previous work in a related discipline such as social services, human resources, education, or career counseling.
