Position Summary:
Seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate individual who can work independently and has an aptitude for hard work and growing vegetables at a therapeutic farm run by Canadian Mental Health Association – Port Alberni branch.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: 
The successful applicant will be engaged in all aspects of running a farm; seeding, harvesting, marketing, irrigation, and crop planning.  Farm is run using organic growing principles and tries to follow the biodynamic calendar.

Primary Objectives: 
To assist the farm manager to increase production onsite and enhance our growing community.

Work Environment:
Work will be conducted primarily on the farmsite which is either outside or in greenhouse.  There is an office that can be made available should research work be done.

 

Qualifications 

Job Requirements:

Our goal is to support those diagnosed with a mental illness in a low stress supportive environment that is inclusive, creates community, and grows delicious vegetables.  Applicants must have good interpersonal skills and no prejudices towards those with a mental illness and/or addiction.  Must be able to follow instructions.

Education and Experience:

Must have been enrolled in full time education this past year with the intent of returning in the fall.  A background in agriculture is a bonus but not a requirement if interest and aptitude for learning are present.

Physical Demands:

Must be physically fit and be comfortable in working outdoors in all temperatures.  Typically, it is very hot and you will be subject to the elements.
