Boat Operator for Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations. 1 Full Time Position and 1 Casual Position. 
 
The TFN Boat Operator will provide quality, serviceable, and safe water transport operations for the children and staff of Tla-o-qui-aht. The transportation route will operate between Tofino and Opitsaht with some other coverage to other areas as assigned by TFN Administration. TFN seeks an enthusiastic, skilled, and responsible operator for the safety and wellbeing of children and staff. Individual must be capable of the physical requirements to carry up to 75lbs while handling transporting of freight. Position is primarily stationed outdoor’s where cold/ poor weather conditions may be conditions of the job.  
 

Qualifications 

Qualifications  
 
• Valid Boat Operators Proficiency Certificate (Required) • MED 3 Certification (Required) • SVOP (Required) • Radio Operators Certification (Required)  • Current valid First Aid Certificate (Required) • Enhanced - Criminal Record Check (Required) • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and own vehicle (Asset but not required) • At least 5+ years vessel operation experience (provide size of vessel, and references in your cover letter) • General marine mechanics knowledge (Preferred) • Experience operating navigation equipment and ability to navigate in poor or low visibility conditions. 
 
Skills & Abilities 
 
• Must be at least 19 years of age • Experience working on a vessel, skipper and deckhand experience.  • Experience working within the Aboriginal sector  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work with children and staff. • Ability to liaise with administration staff to arrange freight, and scheduling. • Ability to provide professional services and conduct in transportation services while serving a wide range of passengers (children 6 to 18, and adults) • Maintain boat safety equipment, and regularly check and perform pre-trip inspections. • Maintain servicing records for vessel operations • Maintain cleanliness and professional appearance of the vessel inside and out. • Clean and store gear • Must be able to work with a diverse population in a supportive and positive manner. • Be dependable, and ability to work without direct supervision. • Be flexible to shift work, and possible evening and weekends where assigned. 
 
 The successful candidate will be expected to reside in the area of Tofino due to scheduling requirements for school aged children.  Preference will be given to a qualified Aboriginal candidate.
