The Co-operative Retailing System (CRS) is a unique, multi-billion dollar organization based on the fundamental principles of co-operation. It is comprised of a network of approximately 200 autonomous retail co-operatives across Western Canada along with their branch operations, and Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL). FCL is the wholesaling/manufacturing arm of the CRS, which provides the retail co-ops with a range of products and services. Ucluelet Consumers Co-operative Association invites applications for the position of Meat Manager.

As a Meat Manager with the Ucluelet Co-op, you will provide leadership in the day- to-day operations of the Meat department by providing quality meat products and services in our food store.  This leader will bring a positive approach; show initiative and drive for results; build and maintain relationships with customers and the team, while ensuring that the administrative requirements of the role are fully maintained.  The successful candidate will be responsible for duties such as but not limited to training, health and safety, merchandising, marketing, administrative procedures, pricing, housekeeping, inventory control, scheduling, customer service, budgeting and staff supervision. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Deliver brand promise and guest services, ensuring the feel of “You’re at home here”
  • Lead the Team Member experience to successful results, including: assessing department needs, training, scheduling, directing tasks, managing performance, and developing talent
  • Manage ordering and inventory based on consumer trends and department factors
  • Cut and prepare meat for sale, based on Ucluelet Co-op Standards
  • Lead and maintain food safety programs and sanitation procedures
  • Ensure that all Team Members are following established health and safety procedures
  • Achieve department financial objectives in the areas of sales, margins, expenses and profits
  • Work closely with Retail Sales Coordinators and other support team members to successfully execute programs
Qualifications 
  • A positive, professional approach, and attitude
  • A secondary school diploma is preferred
  • Must have minimum of 3 years meat cutting experience
  • Formal Meat Cutting Training program is required
  • Food Safe Certification is required
  • Previous Retail Management experience is an asset
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written)

Physical Conditions of the Role:

  • Constant standing and walking throughout shift for up to 8 hours
  • Physically demanding; frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs
  • Kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting
  • Occasional ascending or descending stairs
  • Working in cold rooms for extended periods of time
