As a Hardware Manager with the Tofino Co-op, you will provide leadership in the day- to-day operations of the Hardware department by providing quality products and services in our hardware store.  This leader will bring a positive approach; show initiative and drive for results; build and maintain relationships with customers and the team, while ensuring that the administrative requirements of the role are fully maintained.  The successful candidate will be responsible for duties such as but not limited to training, health and safety, merchandising, marketing, administrative procedures, pricing, housekeeping, inventory control, scheduling, customer service, budgeting and staff supervision. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver brand promise and guest services, ensuring the feel of “You’re at home here”
  • Lead the Team Member experience to successful results, including: assessing department needs, training, scheduling, directing tasks, managing performance, and developing talent
  • Be motivated to growing our Hardware business and committed to providing exceptional customer service
  • Manage ordering and inventory based on consumer trends and department factors
  • Lead and maintain health and safety programs and safe work procedures
  • Be actively out on the floor working one-on-one with team members, leading by example to ensure a highly productive atmosphere exists with the hardware team
  • Ensure that all Team Members are following established health and safety procedures
  • Ensure compliance to company policies and procedures, professional standards and applicable laws and regulations
  • Achieve department financial objectives in the areas of sales, margins, expenses and profits
  • Work closely with Retail Sales Coordinators and other support Team Members to successfully execute programs

Qualifications 
  • A secondary school diploma is required
  • Previous retail management experience, preferably in a home centre or hardware environment
  • Knowledge of hardware products – such as plumbing, electrical, hand tools, paint, etc. is considered an asset
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills
  • Ability to meet multiple demands, work under pressure and meet deadlines

Physical requirements:

  • Constant standing and walking throughout shift for up to 8 hours
  • Physically demanding; frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs
  • Kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting
  • Occasional ascending or descending stairs

Working conditions:

Flexible, must be willing to work a variety of hours, including days, evenings as well as weekends and holidays based on the business needs.
