Tofino Harbour Authority (THA) is a non-profit organization that manages three federal fishing docks in Tofino, Canada. THA is made up of a team of management staff and a volunteer Board of Directors who work collaboratively to manage the facilities in accordance with the Small Craft Harbours, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, mandate to ensure core fishing harbours are kept open and in good repair.

We currently are accepting applicants to fill a full-time seasonal position as Harbour Assistant Manager from April 1 – August 31 2019 with the potential for a permanent year-round contract for the right candidate. Successful applicants should be reliable, professional, motivated, positive, and enjoy working outdoors in all weather. Application deadline is March 10th at 4pm PST.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Perform multiple daily foot patrols of all docks and upland facilities to ensure that facilities are safe and functional
  • Perform daily boat counts and manage seasonal parking enforcement
  • Provide customer service to Harbour users and members of the public
  • Collect fees for use of the public boat ramp, moorage, and all other services provided by THA using a computer-based POS system
  • Ensure all harbour users comply with all Harbour Authority rules and regulations, and enforce rules and regulations when necessary
  • Enforce harbour policies in a professional manner
  • Manage the cleaning of bathrooms, showers, laundry room
  • Manage garbage and recycling facilities, sort oil recycling, maintain litter-free facilities
  • Perform maintenance projects, as needed
  • Assist Harbour Manager with hiring and training summer employees
  • Act as primary point of contact for summer employees, overseeing their day-to-day work
  • Respond accordingly to emergencies onsite
  • Other tasks and duties as required
     
Qualifications 
  • Experience working in a managerial capacity
  • Experience in the not-for-profit sector
  • Possess exceptional customer service and conflict resolution skills
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Able to perform extensive foot patrols in all weather conditions
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Ability to work independently and as a team
  • Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Marine industry experience is an asset
  • College or University-level education is preferred
