Island Work Transitions, Inc. (IWT) provides WorkBC Employment Services to communities in the Alberni-Clayoquot region, as a subcontractor to Central Vancouver Island Job Opportunities Building Society (CVIJOBS).

IWT is looking to hire a Wage Subsidy and Job Development Coordinator to provide services for our three office locations (Port Alberni, Ucluelet, and Tofino) from the base of our main office in Port Alberni. Under the general direction of the IWT management team, the Wage Subsidy and Job Development Coordinator will:

  • Create and secure unpaid work experience and paid employment opportunities for clients, through close collaboration with employers to ensure plans are suitable and realistic.
  • Monitor and document clients’ progress in their work situations, providing needed support for on-the-job problem solving.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of information on the labour market and job opportunities, and share regularly with partners.
  • Build collaborative relationships with employers and service providers, and develop a strong network through involvement in community events and groups.
  • Communicate with community partners regarding client referrals, suitability of applicants, and performance of participants.
  • Travel throughout the service area as required to meet with employers and clients.
  • Aggressively market the benefits of Wage Subsidies and individual clients’ skills to employers.
  • Administer and monitor Wage Subsidy contracts for participants, providing ongoing support to both employers and clients.
  • Perform ongoing data entry to provincial case management system (ICM) according to contract expectations.
  • Ensure strict adherence to client confidentiality, ethical guidelines and other professional codes of conduct.

Qualifications 

Key Requirements:

  • Post-secondary degree in a social service field. Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
  • A combination of training and experience working with individuals with a variety of employment barriers and a broad range of cultural backgrounds.
  • 3 years minimum direct experience with considerable life experience.
  • Strong networking and marketing skills.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively (both in writing and orally) with participants, co-workers and the public, including potential employers and other service providers
  • Exceptional organization, time management, and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated experience using computer technology, databases and Microsoft Office products.

Preferred:

  • Employment Counselling or Career Practitioner Certification.
  • Experience working in employment programs funded by the province and using the Integrated Case Management system.
  • Completion of Career Development course: Career Theories and Ethics.
  • Experience with administration, interviewing and job placement.
  • Good knowledge of local labour market information, community resources and services.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply professional ethics and competencies as outlined in Canadian Standards and Guidelines for Career Development Practitioners.
