The Ukee Public Market Society is seeking a Market Coordinator for the 2019 Market Season. This is a part-time contract position.

 

Hours: Approximately 5-6 hours per week, fluctuating from week to week. This includes working on-site at the Ukee Public Market located on the Village Green every Sunday from 8:00- to 1200 and additional hours of administration from home. . Outside of market season there are a few hours a month required to monitor email, write grant applications, and other administrative tasks.

Employer: The Ukee Public Market Society (UPMS) promotes and coordinates a community of local artisan vendors representing the West Coast of Vancouver Island in a festive Sunday Marketplace on Ucluelet’s historic harbor.   The UPMS is a registered non-profit Society and the Market Coordinator reports directly to the UPMS Board of Directors

Job Description: The Ukee Market Coordinator manages the day-to-day operations of the Sunday Market, combining administrative tasks and on-site event coordination, while acting as a liaison between the Board of Directors, vendors and Market attendees.

      Duties includes:

  • Market set-up, tear down and supervision every Sunday on the Ucluelet Village Green
  • Assigning vendor sites, daily cash functions, facilitating entertainment and enforcing UPMS Guidelines for vendors and public on-site at the Market on Sundays
  • Responding to vendor inquiries and registrations by phone and email
  • Working with our entertainer to ensure weekly musical options are in place
  • Basic accounting functions and budgeting
  • Attending the Board of Directors Wrap-Up Meeting in October 
  • planning and coordinating the Ukee Winter Market
Qualifications 
  • Very strong organizational and time management skills, ability to work independently
  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate with people of all ages and backgrounds, exercising sensitivity while maintaining a high level of professionalism
  • On-site shifts involve working on your feet, with some lifting required
  • Previous experience in event management, supervision, marketing and/or administration
  • Proficiency with social media an asset. Use of own computer required
