The Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council (NTC) is seeking a qualified professional to serve as the Usma Family Care Worker with Usma Family and Child Services (F&CS). Based out of Port Alberni, this permanent, full-time position works alongside the Intake and Investigation Team and Family Service Team to assist in home visits, providing follow up and support to clients in their own home, attending court hearings, and focusing on prevention before removal.
Position Responsibilities

  • Meet regularly with the Intake and Investigation Social Worker or Family Service Social Worker to collaborate, establish and review priorities for planning
  • Regularly schedule home visits to build relationship and assist in monitoring progress, and ensure that the service delivery to families is meeting or exceeding needs
  • Supports the transition process for children and youth who are returning to their parent’s care after a period of time away, and supports parents with planning and resource connection
  • Maintain sound and objective documentation and keep case files up to date
Qualifications 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possess a BSW, Child & Youth Care degree or human service diploma with demonstrated related working experience and related training
  • Experience successfully engaging First Nation children, youth, families and communities and other Aboriginal partners
  • Superior written and oral communication skills /active empathetic listener
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Office, Internet, e-mail (Outlook)
  • Possess networking skills to create strong community connection, and understanding of the importance of working with First Nations protocols
  • Must have a car, valid driver’s licence, and able to work a variety of schedules as needed
  • Provide references and an acceptable criminal record check
