The Tofino Community Food Initiative is seeking to hire a Garden Coordinator that will oversee our Wickaninnish School Garden, Tofino Local Food Booth and Community Garden Programs.

What you’ll be doing:

School Garden (65%):

  • Lead the Wickaninnish Elementary School Recess Club & After School Club, Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • Plan & Coordinate kids’ school garden activities
  • Liaise between TCFI staff, school employees, after school program coordinator, school chef, and Parental Advisory Committee
  • Maintain the school vegetable garden and food forest, during the school year and summer months
  • Oversee compost maintenance
  • Plan volunteer days/work bees for large projects in the school garden
  • Lead school garden fundraising activities

Saturday Market (25%):

  • Plant seedlings to sell at market
  • Set up and Take down of weekly market tent
  • Sell produce, tote bags, pickled kelp etc. at the market
  • Responsible for cash handling and recording sales
  • Coordinate with Tofino Ucluelet Culinary Guild to source island produce
  • Coordinate with local gardeners to source local produce
  • Represent TCFI to the public, share information about events/workshops
  • Recruit and train market volunteers

Community Garden (10%):

  • Liaise with Tofino Botanical Gardens staff gardeners and landowners
  • Organize spring callout for garden plot and plot assignment
  • Maintain garden and gardening supplies
Qualifications 

Skills we’re looking for:

  • Experience working with youth and children
  • Experience working with people of varied cultures, backgrounds and experiences
  • Advanced gardening experience (Organic Master Gardener or equivalent is preferred)
  • First Aid certified
  • Effective and kind communicator
  • Organized and self-motivated
