The Port Alberni Maritime Heritage Society is a non-profit organization that exists to preserve, present, and promote the rich heritage of the West Coast of Vancouver Island focused on the harbour of Port Alberni. We have an exciting opportunity for a new Facilities Coordinator to join our team.

The Facilities Coordinator is responsible for the day to day operations of the society’s two small museum gallery facilities at the Harbour Quay, and the programs for children, youth, and the community that are offered through them.

Qualifications 

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A passion for maritime history and knowledge of history of the Alberni Valley and west coast.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Able to interest and welcome visitors.
  • Able to interact with all age groups.
  • Self-starter and organized - must be able to work alone.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office software applications.
  • Able to use social media.
  • Experience handling cash.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Welcome visitors to the museum.
  • Prepare monthly summary reports for the board detailing activities at the Galleries and what is happening with the PAMHS.
  • Maintain records of cash and funds arising from donations and retail sales.
  • Keep count of visitors.
  • Advertise the museum on social media. Promote new exhibits and happenings. Share facts about maritime history and the west coast.
  • Organize tours with other programs such as schools, daycares, spring break camps, care homes, and more.
  • Development and management of Programs in consultation with the board
  • Maintaining records, both physical and digital, of the society in an organized manner including the inventory of artifacts, the library, and gift shop.
  • Perform research, special projects, or exhibit preparation as requested by the board.
  • Purchase supplies needed for the galleries and programs.
  • Keep galleries clean and in good order. Maintain the buildings and grounds.
