Westcoast Community Resources Society is a charitable organization which shares the community’s vision that every member’s well-being is ensured. We have a number of ministry funded programs providing free and confidential services to community members on the west coast. The Community Support Worker is responsible for the creation of integrated leisure opportunities designed to support each individual and to assist them in developing to the fullest extent of their abilities. The Worker will schedule activities that increase community participation and will facilitate the development of strong personal networks, peer support and mentorship, community awareness and safety skills for individuals. They will build and maintain a warm and friendly working relationship based on cooperation with participants, co-workers, family/caregivers and others in the community. 

This is a client-led contract to provide community inclusion support to Community Living BC (CLBC) client. Hours are not guaranteed as they are dependent on number of client contracts and client needs, but is on average 12 hours a week. Work involves direct client support to develop life skills and social integration, or as directed by CLBC assessment. Work may occur in the client’s home or in the community. Monthly reporting and client documentation is required. Supervision and case management is provided by WCRS. This position requires union membership. 

Qualifications 

1.Community Service Worker Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience 

2.Ability to work independently 

3.Excellent liaison skills 

4.Full awareness of and ability to work within set clear boundaries 

5.Experience with life skills and integration work 

6.Experience working with adults with developmental needs 

7.Use of a reliable vehicle for work, and a full class 5 BC Drivers License with appropriate insurance 

8.Successful criminal record check 

9.Level 1 first aid with CPR 

10.Food safe certification preferred 

11.Non-Violent crisis intervention training preferred
