SUMMARY:

  • The Key Worker will assist families in understanding Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) by providing education and information specific to the needs of the child and family.
  • The Key Worker will be familiar with community resources, assist families in accessing support, health and education services and are involved in the development of local support services.
  • The Key Worker will also provide emotional and practical support to families. They will provide parent support services which includes parent & grandparent FASD training, parent mentoring and parent support groups.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides flexible (day, evening, weekend), timely and culturally sensitive support, guidance and problemsolving to families of children and youth with confirmed or suspected FASD;
  • Participates in the development, modification and evaluation of family service plans with an integrated, multidisciplinaryteam.
  • Liaises with regional health multi-disciplinary assessment team that identifies children and youth with FASD and other similar behavioral developmental conditions;
  • Supports parents in understanding and following through with recommendations and in accessing existing family support, health and education services;
  • Provides parenting skill-building to families to assist with challenges such as parent-child interaction, child development, guidance and behavior management.
  • Supports parents/caregivers of children/youth as they wait for assessment;
  • Provides community educational opportunities for supporting children/youth with FASD, ongoingp articipation in regional/provincial required training and meetings, networking and collaborating with other FASD Key Workers, local committees and with local service providers. Cooperates with the provincial evaluation team
  • Develops, presents and facilitates public presentations to community partners, businesses, and potential networks.
  • Represents the Association and be a positive role model while building connections and networks between community members, organizations, and/or businesses and people with disabilities.
  • Completes and maintains required documentation
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications 

Diploma in the Community Development, Child and Youth Care or Social Services and experience
working with children/youth with special needs or equivalent combination of education, training and
experience may be considered.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
• Knowledge of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)
• Community Development Skills
• Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
• Computer skills and proficiency in MSOffice and Audio Visual equipment

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
• Valid BC. Class 5 Driver's License,
• Use of a Personal Vehicle
• Basic First Aid &CPR
