Details 
  • The Education Assistant (EA) will provide such support services or supervision duties as directed to assist student’s success at Haahuupayak School.
  • The responsibilities focus on individual students and small groups.
  • The EA will work very closely with teachers and other specialists.

    Preference will be given to candidates with Early Childhood Education or certificate in Human Services and to those that have experience working with Children on the autism spectrum.

Qualifications 

Under the supervision of the Special Education Coordinator (S.E.C.) or Principal and working under the direction of the classroom Teacher, the EA will:

  1. Work with students individually or in small groups to help students understand the lesson and skills taught.
  2. Carry out programs designed by the S.E.C. teacher or principal for designated students
  3. Observe strict rules of confidentiality in all student matters.
  4. Attend IEP meetings as may be requested for  individual students
  5. Adhere to policies outlined in the Haahuupayak School Policy Handbook.
  6. Perform supervision duties as assigned.
  7. Help monitor student’s behaviour or progress on an individual basis.
  8. Assist with preparation of learning materials for the classroom as directed.
  9. Carry out any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the S.E.C. or principal

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must be able to work respectfully with children, teachers and staff
  2. Must have experience working with children on the autism spectrum
  3. Must be committed to First Nations Education.
  4. Must have at least Grade 12, Certificate in Human Services or Early Childhood Education (ECE), or Post-secondary education.
  5. Must be able to respect and earn respect from students and maintain confidentiality in all matters related to students.
  6. Must be aware of and use appropriate behavioural management techniques when required. (ie. Trauma informed practices)
  7. Basic clerical, organizational, and record keeping skills including familiarity with office equipment such as photocopiers and computers.
