Who we are:

Hiilthuu’is Spirit Construction Ltd (“HSC”) is a newly established  firm specializing in construction management services for developing community-led infrastructure projects on the west coast of Vancouver Island. HSC is a Tla-o-qui-aht owned company.

The Company objectives are:

  • Provide construction management services to civil construction projects primarily on the West Coast of Vancouver Island; and,
  • Create jobs and training opportunities for Tla-o-qui-aht members, including project management, machine operation, safety, traffic control and other construction trades.

By establishing HSC, Tla-o-qui-aht aims to grow and maintain financial, business, and construction capabilities so that the community can accrue benefits from future infrastructure development in the region more efficiently.

Job Summary:

As the first step to achieving the objectives stated above, we are hiring a full-time permanent position of Business Manager / Project Coordinator.. This position will commence on October 16th, 2020. Salary commensurate with training and experience.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high quality, professional business management and projet coordination capacities to support Tla-o-qui-aht led infrastructure development projects.

Key tasks for this position include:

  • Support development and implementation of administrative systems, including finance, HR, corporate budget and communication;
  • Support development and implementation of a business development strategy, including annual planning, proposal writing, government grants writing, and client meetings;
  • Support development and implementation of training programs; and,
  • Support coordination of construction with contractors, suppliers, engineers and specialists while representing and protecting the Owner’s interests.

Responsibilties:

Reporting to the Board of Directors, your duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Supporting Business Development
    • Proposal development and budgeting;
    • Community engagement;
    • Marketing and communication;
    • Attend client meetings;
    • Attending conferences and events;
    • Secure financing;
    • Supporting HR functionalities
      • Recruitment;
      • Training plan;
    • Supporting Safety Program
      • Maintaining and organizing safety programs and records;
    • Supporting Administration
      • Budget tracking;
      • Annual corporate planning and budgeting;
    • Supporting Construction Management
      • Coordination of construction with contractors, suppliers, engineers and specialists while representing and protecting the Owner’s interests.
      • Removing hurdles/challenges where possible to set up the project contractors for success.
      • Collecting as-built survey information and QC documentation and distributing to the professionals of record as required;
      • Documenting the project with daily written and photo reports;
      • Maintain a project schedule, updated in regular intervals;
    • Adhere to all Company policies and procedures, including safety
    • Contribute ideas, energy, and personal commitment to help foster a positive and rewarding work environment, and to help maintain and grow a successful, innovative, high-quality construction management consulting practice
Qualifications 
  • Must have a university degree in business administration
  • Must have prior experience in business development work
  • Must have experience in financing, including commercial financing and budget control
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Office365)
  • Strong community relationship building skills
  • Strong time management, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to multi-task
  • Must be a self-starter
  • Strong writing skills
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Maintains a valid Canadian driver’s license
  • Must relocate to West Coast Vancouver Island
  • Must have own vehicle
