Victim Services Worker (Casual)

The Port Alberni Victim Services Society is seeking applicants for a Casual -On Call Police Based Victim Service worker

  • Shift Flexibility (weekends, evenings) may be required as work may vary
  • Hours and shifts are based on operational requirements

 

This position is under the supervision of the Program Manager. The Victim Services Worker provides crisis intervention and immediate and follow-up assistance to victims and witnesses of crime and trauma.

Responsibilities:

  • To deliver immediate and follow up services to victims and witnesses of crime or trauma
  • Knowledge of program objectives, policies, procedures and protocols
  • Ability to provide support to victims and witnesses of crime and trauma with knowledge of victim’s rights under the Victim of Crime Act and Canadian Victim Bill of Rights
  • Knowledge of services available through community agencies and organizations
  • Knowledge of police and criminal court procedures related to the work performed
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in order to prepare reports, correspondence and provide presentations
  • Ability to work both as a team and independentl
  • Responding to calls for service as requested by manager or RCM
  • Preparing concise, accurate and relevant case file information
  • Providing referrals to appropriate community agencies based on an assessment of a client needs
  • Attending court as required
  • Maintaining professional boundaries with clients.
  • Maintaining an awareness of the resources available to victims of crime and trauma within each community served
Qualifications 

Qualifications:

  • Related post secondary education and /or a combination of training, education and experience in a social service environment
  • Crisis Response experience preferred
  • Working Knowledge of computer programs
  • Possess a valid BC Driver’s License with safe driving record
  • Pass and maintain an RCMP Enhanced Reliability and Security Clearance
