North Island College is seeking a qualified, full-time sessional Metal Fabrication instructor at the Port Alberni campus. The successful candidate is responsible for instruction in Foundation, Apprenticeship, Youth Train, and Trades Sampler, and will inform future in-community and specialized Metal Fabricator programming.

Responsibilities include:

  • Curriculum development spanning exploration, foundation, apprenticeship, and trades math; advancement of Metal Fabricator curricula; development of assessments aligned with ITA standards; supporting student success and student recruitment; supporting industry engagement; and continuous program advancement and quality improvement.
  • The teaching faculty of North Island College are responsible for implementing the College’s vision, goals, and objectives as they relate to teaching and learning.
  • To carry out their teaching assignments, faculty use organizational skills, inter-personal skills, and their knowledge of subject matter, pedagogy, and curricular design. In addition, they have a responsibility to serve as role models for students and colleagues.
Qualifications 

- Metal Fabricator with interprovincial (Red Seal) certification and Certificate of Apprenticeship or Certificate of BC Qualification and Certificate of Apprenticeship. Preference may be given to those who also posses welding certification;
- Experience teaching trades professionals, adults In transition and youth; Provincial Instructor’s Diploma, or equivalent;
- Minimum 10 years industry experience as a metal fabricator with a broad range of recent industry experience including;
- Experience setting up training programs, including curriculum development and assessments;
- Use motivating approaches to stimulate learning, including the use of instructional technologies.

- Familiarity with the BC ITA Harmonized Metal Fabricator program outlines;
- Experience setting up training programs;
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills;
- Proficiency with MS Office software applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, the internet and web-based applications;
- Proficiency with learning technologies and digital tools;
- Demonstrated excellent instructional abilities, using creative and motivating approaches to stimulate learning, including the use of instructional technologies within an online learning environment;
-Experience with blended learning, ability to build online theory components in a learning platform, ability to translate face-to-face content delivery;
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to plan and prioritize, and efficiently meet deadlines;
- A demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement;
- Demonstrated ability to work both individually and cooperatively in a team environment with online faculty, coordinators, online student groups, employers and staff
