Tofino Resort + Marina is looking for a motivated Assistant Food and Beverage Manager.

1909 Kitchen is a casual fine dining experience featuring simple, fresh, elevated ingredients sourced and foraged from the forests, oceans and beaches of Tofino. A wood-burning pizza oven, with a large selection of seafood and a la carte menu options. The menus are ingredient-driven, with inspirations from Pacific regions like Mexico, Japan and the Pacific Northwest. Outside influences from Italy and France stand out as well.

The Hatch Waterfront Pub features a refined pub menu that appeals to locals and visitors alike. The kitchen uses high-quality ingredients while both re-visiting pub classics and creating new ones.

The right candidate aspires to mentor the next wave of service professionals in Canada’s next burgeoning foodie scene. They are at home in a leadership role and enjoy passing on the skill of their craft to a young & eager team.

Duties and responsibilities  

  • Clearly understand the brand & vision of 1909 Kitchen & Tofino Resort + Marina and communicate clearly with passion & excitement to team
  • Demonstrate passionate leadership by creating a culture that revolves around experience and enjoyment of food and wine  
  • Motivate and mentor a team consisting of seasoned employees and young seasonal crew who are at entry level of their skill set
  • Experienced in conflict resolution and problem-solving skills  
  • Strive for maximum efficiency and continual improvement of staff productivity  
  • Ensure that each shift opens and closes in accordance with departmental checklists  
  • Monitor hours and staffing on a daily basis; ensure scheduling is in; forecast and budgeting guidelines.  
  • Manage day-to-day staffing requirements, plan and assign work and establish performance and development goals for team members.  
  • Ensure staff is properly trained on quality and service standards, has the necessary tools and equipment, and is empowered to carry out job duties  
  • Build and maintain relationships with guests, team members and management  
  • In the absence of the Food and Beverage Manager, overseeing the entire operations of 1909 Kitchen and the Hatch Waterfront Pub.
Qualifications 
  • Minimum two years’ experience in a high-volume, fast-paced hospitality environment  
  • Ability to demonstrate extreme organization in a fast-paced environment while acting as a team player  
  • Working knowledge of Squirrel, Optimum Control, Open Table
  • Must possess superior verbal or written communication skills  
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook  
  • Valid Serving It Right Certification  
  • Minimum Grade 12 diploma or equivalency  
  • Food and Beverage/Hospitality courses an asset  
  • Proficient problem-solving abilities with clear & empathetic communication skills
  • Obtaining feedback from visitors and locals on food service quality
  • Resolving guest issues & concerns with empathy & understanding
