North Island College is seeking a qualified instructor for the Heavy Duty/Commercial Transport Mechanics program at our Campbell River Campus. Responsibilities include teaching pre-apprentice students to provincial outcomes and standards as established for the combined HD/CT pre-apprentice program, as well as teaching apprentices in technical training classes. Program delivery may involve various degrees of online and face-to-face instruction. Other responsibilities include program development and lesson planning, tool and equipment maintenance, and liaison with regional employers.

Qualifications 

Skills and Qualifications:

  •  Journeyperson Interprovincial Qualification (Red Seal) in Heavy Duty Mechanics
  • Certificate of Apprenticeship
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a journeyperson working in all aspects of Heavy Duty and Commercial Transport Mechanics
  • Experience teaching post-secondary courses in online, and blended/hybrid learning environments
  • Completion of the Provincial Instructors Diploma program
  • Familiarity with the Heavy Duty and Commercial Transport program outlines
  • Experience setting up training programs
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with learning technologies and digital tools
  • Demonstrated excellent instructional abilities, using creative and motivating approaches to stimulate learning, including the use of instructional technologies within an online learning environment
  • Experience with blended learning, ability to build online theory components in a learning platform, ability to translate face-to-face content delivery
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to plan and prioritize, and efficiently meet deadlines
  • A demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to work both individually and co-operatively in a team environment with online faculty, coordinators, online student groups, employers and staff
