Position Summary:
Reporting Report directly to the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations (TFN) Language Coordinator, working alongside existing language staff, Language Programming Coordinator, Family Language Outreach Worker, Language Administrator.
Supporting the organization to meet the Nation's vision, mission, and values.  
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
 
This is a term position from September 7, 2021 to June 30, 2022 (with a possible one-year extension July 2022 to June 2023)  
  • Support with the Tla-o-qui-aht Preserving Language for generations project 
  • With existing documents in TFN office, create (compatible) language files and digitized resources for the TFN main drive 
  • Create a Language digital filing system (also stored in Cloud as a final backup) 
  • Create user-friendly digital files for use by all community members (to be shared on TFN website and social media sites, as well as through our weekly language classes) 
  • Host a community sharing gathering at the end of the fiscal year, with our TFN members and language learners, and other community language partners. 
  • Provide information about the digital resources and First Voices Site created through this project 
  • Create (via Zoom, if needed) community information sessions and updates (to ensure language learners are well aware of how to access the site and online resources) 
  • Work with other language dialects to share resources and build on the work that has already been done across Nuu-chah-nulth territories 
  • Work on creation of an Application (“App”) that is compatible to iPhones, Android, tablets, PCs and Zoom, if possible. 
  • Identify teachers to teach language as well as learners 
  • Create new words, we need modern words to keep our language alive 
  • Create tools for families in homes – posters, flash cards, stickers, books 
  •  Record language speakers and elders (we only have 13 fluent speakers and silent speakers, and approximately 12 up-coming student language learners) 
  • Learn and build on the success of others
  • Utilize modern technology available to us – add to our TFN website and app to share tools
