ADAPS is hiring two Youth Workers-Group Prevention Programming for the Prevention and Wellness Program. This program will support and deliver the programming for our 15 month Youth Prevention Project for 2022/2023.  The role requires a minimum of 1 year experience, with preferred experience working with diverse groups of youth who have lived experience with multiple risk factors. Experience with group work and activity based programming is essential. Some education or professional development related to Human Service Work or Youth Work is expected. The Project Facilitator will:

  • Deliver, alongside another youth worker, group programming for up to 8 youth 3 afternoons per week.
  • Contribute to the planning and programming as determined by the Project Facilitator. Support the delivery of closed groups and drop in for youth ages 11-13 up to three times per week. These groups will be staffed with 2 Youth care workers, and will have frequent onsite facilitation and operational support by the Project Facilitator.
  • Will be positive, energetic, empathetic and practice unconditional positive regard for their staff team and the program’s youth participants.
  • Have an amazing understanding of the Circle of Courage, and of concepts of building resiliency in youth. Will understand risk factors and protective factors, and how risk factors increase a young persons’ risk of harmful substance use and mental health concern.
  • Consider and adapt to the unique needs of youth who have had a full day of school, and who may have stressors in their school or home.
  • Will participate in community events that increase awareness of prevention and resiliency, and of substance use concerns amongst school age youth. Community events will be collaborative with community partners, and with other ADAPS programming.
  • Will have a skilled and warm manner with community partners and with parents. This role may find themselves being a referral agent for youth participants who may benefit from family support or other programming.
  • This role will provide regular participation data, and will participate in final project report and recommendations for our community to develop a comprehensive prevention plan for school aged youth.
  • This role benefits from a recreation background, though the group programming is considered both pro-social and pro-recreational.

Hours of Work:

  • Hours of work will be 2:00-6:00 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Flexibility may be required from time to time. The Youth Workers will occasionally join ADAPS staff and programming at special events or celebrations that may fall outside the scope of Tuesday-Thursday 2-6. 
  • **There are three community events proposed in this project that will occur in the evening over the course of the 15 months.
  • Part Time, 12 hours per week
  • This role has not yet been classified (nor has it been found to be excluded). Hourly wage will be based on experience, and can be projected to be 22.85-25.45 per hour.
