Port Alberni Family Guidance Association is looking for a Clinical Counselor. We are a registered Charity and not for profit that has been in operation for 53 years. We are seeking someone who is passionate about their work and provide a mix of online and in-person work at our clinic.

Position Summary: Our Family Counsellor provides therapy to families and family members referred by the Ministry of Child and Family Development and the community. Therapist will assess, formulate, and carry out case plans for effective intervention with families dealing with a child or youth with mental health challenges or with families referred by the child protection system. Working with a trauma informed perspective, interventions will range from brief to longer term. This position requires a strong team player who can effectively liaise with social workers, clinicians, and community professionals.

We are looking for an experienced masters-level counsellor who has leadership qualities and has a passion for complexity.

  • Master’s degree (minimum) in psychology, clinical social work, or education counselling psychology.
  • RCC, CCC or RSW designation
  • Trauma-informed practice
  • Active professional liability insurance 
  • Commitment to continuing professional development
  • Strong psychotherapy skills
  • Skills and/or training in supervision an asset
Qualifications 
  • Graduate degree in counselling psychology or counseling related discipline
  • Training in Trauma Informed Practice, Attachment, and family systems an asset
  • At least 2 years providing therapy to families
  • Basic understanding of substance use issues, effects of trauma on development, parenting and attachment 
  • Experience with clients dealing with family conflict or domestic violence
  • Experience facilitating group therapy an asset
  • Criminal record check required
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Cultural sensitivity
  • Strong understanding of the child protection system 

Skills and/or training in clinical supervision an asset. Connect Parent Group training also an asset.
