Westcoast Community Resources Society is a charitable organization which shares the community’s vision that every member’s well-being is ensured. We have a number of ministry funded programs providing free and confidential services to community members on the West Coast. We are currently seeking a permanent part-time PEACE Counsellor

Nature of Position: The PEACE Counsellor provides community-based support programs for children between the ages of three and eighteen who have witnessed abuse, particularly of their mother by her spouse or partner, aimed at breaking the cycle of violence

Qualifications 
  1. A diploma or degree in social work, child & youth care, or a related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  2. A minimum of one years’ previous work in a counselling/therapeutic field is required
  3. Direct program delivery experience in the community social services sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of community-based programs and related provincial and community support systems is preferred
  4. Experience working for a non-profit organization is preferred
  5. Full & valid BC Driver's License, own vehicle in good working condition and appropriate insurance.
  6. Knowledge of current legislation that affects clients’ rights.
  7. The ability to work autonomously and collectively in a variety of environments
  8. Excellent time management and organizational skills
  9. Exemplary interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  10. Proficient counselling skills
  11. Awareness of inherent power imbalances in our society
  12. Ability to promote understanding and skill development to end the cycle of violence
  13. Successful criminal record check
  14. Level 1 first aid with CPR
  15. Non-Violent crisis intervention training and/or mental health first aid training
