Employment Program of BC (EPBC) Apprentice Financial Supports

An application for EPBC Apprentice Financial Supports is required to give you approval to be in a training program and collect EI at the same time, even if you do not require additional financial supports.

Who Can Apply

ITA registered Apprentices who have an:

  • Employer Sponsor, or a
  • Union Hiring Hall Sponsor, or an
  • Aboriginal Skills and Employment Training Strategy (ASETS) Sponsor, or are
  • An unemployed pre-existing ITA Registered Apprentice who:
    • Is unemployed and is attached to their Employer Sponsor but does not have a specific return to work date at the time of requesting Financial Supports to attend Classroom Technical Training,
    • Or, is unemployed and without an Employer Sponsor, but has an active ITA Apprentice Registration at the time of requesting Financial Supports to attend Classroom Technical Training.  (Note: The ITA keeps the Apprentice Registration active for 18 months from the date the apprentice loses his/her Employer Sponsor).

How To Apply

Apprentices who meet the eligibility requirements outlined above, and who wish to apply for EPBC Apprentice Financial Supports must apply through the WorkBC Apprentice Training Supports Online.  This application must be done a minimum of 4 weeks prior to the start of your course, in order to determine if you qualify for supports.  You must also apply separately for EI benefits in your last week of work, or by the first week of training, in order to be eligible for supports.

  1. The first step of this online application will ask you to identify where you will be attending your classroom training; the WorkBC Centre nearest to your training provider will be contacted to manage your financial supports once the application is completed. (NOTE - If you are planning to attend a school outside of British Columbia, select "Out of Province" as the location of your training institution during your online application).
  2. The next step requires access to government of BC online services, and you will be required to log on with your Basic BCeID.  If you do not have a Basic BCeID, you will be directed to create one.
Apprentices who do not meet the criteria outlined above, but who meet EI client eligibility requirements may still be eligible for EPBC Apprentice Financial Supports directly through a WorkBC Centre, such as Alberni Valley Employment Centre.  In this case, you must make an appointment with the WorkBC Centre a minimum of four weeks prior to the start of your course. You cannot apply for financial support once you begin your course.
If you would like to begin the application process, click on the following link.  You should have your ITA registration number, SIN, and course start and end dates before you begin.  To download a step-by-step application guide, please click on the File link at the bottom of this page.
