Details 

Nature of Position:  Provide support to parents and caregivers in Ucluelet & Tofino, with children aged 0 – 18 who either have a diagnosis of a development disability, autism, or are eligible for the “at-home” program.  Referrals to the program are made through the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) Social Worker.  Assessments and established goals are provided by MCFD and the family. Through individual and group work the CYSN Family Support Worker will teach, support and refer families to appropriate services allowing families to support their children to reach their highest potential. Generally, this is an intervention program with direct one-on-one support to the child by the CYSN Family Support Worker, additional services to be delivered will include outreach, referrals, mentoring, training, and education.

Wage or Salary Range:  JJEP Grid 12, Step 1- Family Support Worker $29.17/hour plus vacation and benefits as outlined by the collective agreement

Location: Ucluelet, Tofino, and surrounding area

Hours per week: 35 hours

Qualifications 

 

Experience & Qualifications:

  1. Relevant diploma/degree in child and youth care or a related area and/or combination of experience and training.
  2. A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a supportive role with neurodiverse children, youth and their families.
  3. Specialized training with neurodiverse children is important.
  4. Full & Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License, own vehicle in good working condition and appropriate insurance.
  5. Level 1 First Aid with CPR.
  6. Basic computer skills.
  7. Behavior management, trauma informed training, non-violent crisis intervention training and cultural awareness training are preferred.
  8. Experience in assessment, program design, evaluation and Individual Program Planning.
  9. Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  10. Exemplary interpersonal skills
