Position Summary:  The Economic Development Research Coordinator will work with the Economic Development Officer (EDO) in the initiation, planning, directing and flow of all economic development related projects.  

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Research sectors related to Economic development as they relate to the Economic Development Plan and Huu-ay-aht process
  • Manage assigned and approved projects as directed by the EDO.
  • Maintain confidentiality and neutrality at all times.
  • Promote a performance-focused environment in alignment with the Huu-ay-aht First Nation’s (HFN) values, culture and business goals.

 

Job Duties:

  • Review, research and assist in the exploration and acquisition of economic development projects.
  • Assist and track economic development related projects through the HFN approval process.
  • Create Request for Proposals (RFP) and contracts as requested.
  • Prepare related correspondence, reports, statements and other material associated with economic development.
  • Assist in preparing and delivering / presenting project and budgeting and reports.
  • Effectively and efficiently manage economic related projects
  • Assist and work alongside of the EDO and project stakeholders to develop project charts related to project implementation, including proposed economic development projects.
  • Create work plans and support funding proposals
  • Assist and oversee where requested, securing feasibility studies, business plans, and marketing plans to assist HFN entrepreneurs
  • Understand and translate HFN policy into operations
  • Provide technical support to the Economic Development Committee.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Operational Requirements:

  • Valid class 5 driver’s licence.
  • Some travel, including overnight and or weekends. 
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime, including evenings and weekends.
  • Successful background checks, including employment verification, reference checks, and education/credential verification.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability and experience in upholding Organizational Values:  Professionalism, Respect, Health, Effective Communication, Trust, Support.
  • Administrative or related College or University Diploma, Degree or Certificate preferred.
  • 3+ years of previous experience in an administrative support or researcher role. 
  • Experience in project management process, principles and methodologies.
  • Experience creating detailed project documents, RFP’s, and contracts
  • Experience with project and portfolio management (PPM).
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication, report writing and people management skills.
  • Strong skills in research, critical thinking and analysis.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience in taking minutes.
  • Excellent computer skills including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint.

  • Prepare, cook and serve meals
  • Wash dishes and food service and preparation items
  • Keep food service and storage areas clean
  • General cleaning of facility, janitorial, wash floors, vacuuming, dusting, empty garbage and laundry.
  • Report any maintenance or safety needs to your supervisor.

Additional Information:

The job entails working with a broad cross section of individuals with varying needs that are under the influence of alcohol or drugs, it is best suited to individuals that like to work with people. It is help full to be out going and have good strong personal boundaries.

Often exposed to some undesirable working conditions in the form of unpleasant dealings with uncooperative or demanding clients.

Qualifications
  • Human Support Worker diploma or equivalent combination of education, training and experience in working with individuals with addictions
  • Current Food Safe level 1
  • Current Criminal Records Check
  • Current Level 1 First Aid (minimum)

Position Summary:  The Fisheries Technician will perform fisheries activities in a responsible and sustainable manner in accordance to the principles of ʔiisaak (Iisaak), Hišuk ma c̓awak (Hishuk ma tsawalk), and ʔuuʔałuk (Uuathluk), and will work to increase community participation in fisheries related activities.

 

Job Duties:

  • Assist in operation of Food Fish Program including:
    • Delivery of fresh and frozen fish to major cities
    • Logistical coordination
    • Citizen engagement via phone, email and in-person
    • Data entry & tracking
  • Participates in harvest monitoring activities such as:
    • Water and land patrols and phone interviews (with HFN teammates, DFO staff and other external parties).
    • Domestic catch and harvest reporting using the Maa-nulth Electronic Reporting Program (data entry and retrieval).
  • Assisting the Huu-ay-aht Lands & Marine Coordinator in all aspects of domestic fisheries management and fish and fish habitat restoration and enhancement 
  • Contributes to safety of all field and other activities for self and team members.
  • Assists the team to ensure maintenance of natural resources field equipment is in good working condition
  • Assists with fisheries assessments such as: domestic fish surveys, swim counts, stream walks and juvenile salmon trapping
  • Assists with salmon habitat restoration and salmon rebuilding activities in Huu-ay-aht territories
  • Attends natural resources-related training as directed by Lands & Marine Coordinator
  • Completes work at Sugsaw Hatchery including brood stock catch, egg enumeration, and related duties
  • Completes collaborative field work with Natural Resource Department
  • Other duties as required by the Lands & Marine Coordinator
Qualifications
Operational Requirements:
• Valid class 5 driver’s license.
• Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather.
• Some travel, including overnight and or weekends.  
• Willingness and ability to work overtime, including evenings and weekends.
• Successful background checks, including employment verification and reference checks.
 
Education and Experience Requirements:
• Demonstrated ability and experience in upholding the HFN Organizational Values:  Professionalism, Respect, Health, Effective Communication, Trust, Support
• Experience in fisheries and some wildlife field work
• Strong customer service orientation
• Must be reliable, diligent, and accountable for time and actions on the job

Five Acre Productions: Shaker Music Festival
What started as a memorial for Zakkaree Coss in 2014 on a private 5-acre property has grown into a fullscale
Music Festival on 32 acres at McLean Mill Historic Park. Dedicated to bringing talented artists and

By collaborating with Social Root Consulting, The Shaker Music Festival has acknowledged the need to
implement sustainable practices in their operations and services this year, and going forward. We are
looking for a dynamic, creative, and driven individual to help contribute to this project.

Job Overview:
The Sustainability Coordinator works collaboratively with the Shaker Music Festival planning committee,
staff, and volunteers to develop, coordinate, and promote effective sustainability initiatives to reduce
the Shaker Music Festival impact on the environment. Responsibilities include educating the community
about sustainability and coordinating festival programming and activities related to sustainability,
performing research about sustainability, applying sustainable initiatives during the Music Festival, and
assisting in some reporting.

Objectives of this Position:
To advance students skills and knowledge for future opportunities in the sustainable tourism
management and culture sector, particularly in event production, management, promotions and
publicity, and general operational requirements of Festivals in a fast moving professional environment.

Responsibilities:
1. Works with all elements of the Shaker Music Festival, including students, planning committee,

etc.
2. Serves a liaison between various groups to assure communication and resource coordination for

4. Attends the Shaker Music Festival meetings.
5. Posts on social media channels to promote sustainable initiatives.

after the Music Festival event.
7. Utilizes tourism and event management knowledge to assist with marketing and promotion of the
event.
9. Supports in the Development of spreadsheets, data tracking materials to track, measure and analyse
sustainability initiatives

skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
11. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional
contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or
courses as directed.
12. Supports the overall success of the Shaker Music Festivals sustainability efforts by performing all

Qualifications

Qualifications: This Position is funded through the NETP Special Projects Summer Student Grant, to be eligible for this position you must:

1. Identify as a First Nations, Inuit, or Metis person

2. Be residing in the Alberni Valley during the work placement

First aid and CPR training considered an asset Valid Class 5 Drivers License considered an asset (must have ability to commute to various locations)

Alberni Valley Tourism Training Program training an asset Education Second or third year student in a diploma or degree program.

Enrolled in a tourism, environmental, or social geography discipline, such as tourism management, leisure studies, or event management, socioecological environmental studies, or an appropriately related field is preferred.

Experience Project or professional experience in coordinating projects and/or developing programming is an asset.

Experience working with sustainability (social, environmental, economic) or tourism management programs in higher education is preferred.

Experience in waste auditing, measuring and tracking waste and data management is an asset.

Experience in Social Media promotion, marketing, and engagement on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and others.

The Chapel of Memories Funeral Directors has been serving the Alberni Valley and West Coast since 1941. OVERVIEW: We currently have a full time opening for a Funeral Director/Embalmer Apprentice at the Chapel of Memories Funeral Directors. This position interacts directly with client families during their time of need and is expected to assist the Funeral Director/Manager in creating and maintaining a premier level of client family satisfaction. 

The successful applicant will have their tuition/training fees for the Industry Training Authority (ITA) program paid for. Applicant must be willing to travel for required schooling.

Once the probationary period has been completed, benefits of medical, dental and optometry are available.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Desire for full time employment as an apprentice in a Funeral Director/Embalmer role
  • Excellent work history and good driving record
  • Ability to pass a criminal record check
  • Ability to pass both the Industry Training Authority (ITA) Certificate of Qualifications exams at the appropriate time
  • Be physically fit and able to lift heavy loads
  • Knowledge of computers - including word processing, data entry and spreadsheets 
  • Ability to work under time restrictions and in a busy office enviornment 
  • Willing to relocate to Port Alberni

 

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL BE EXPECTED TO:

  • Be involved in the community
  • Take part in an oncall rotation schedule
  • Work overtime, weekends and evenings when assigned

Position Summary:

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: 
The successful applicant will be engaged in all aspects of running a farm; seeding, harvesting, marketing, irrigation, and crop planning.  Farm is run using organic growing principles and tries to follow the biodynamic calendar.

Primary Objectives: 
To assist the farm manager to increase production onsite and enhance our growing community.

Work Environment:
Work will be conducted primarily on the farmsite which is either outside or in greenhouse.  There is an office that can be made available should research work be done.

Job Requirements:

Our goal is to support those diagnosed with a mental illness in a low stress supportive environment that is inclusive, creates community, and grows delicious vegetables.  Applicants must have good interpersonal skills and no prejudices towards those with a mental illness and/or addiction.  Must be able to follow instructions.

Education and Experience:

Must have been enrolled in full time education this past year with the intent of returning in the fall.  A background in agriculture is a bonus but not a requirement if interest and aptitude for learning are present.

Physical Demands:

Must be physically fit and be comfortable in working outdoors in all temperatures.  Typically, it is very hot and you will be subject to the elements.

Current LPN license with College of Licensed Practical Nurses of British Columbia (CLPNBC) 

Foot Care Certification and asset 

Experience working with  First Nations will be considered an asset

Familiarity with Panorama, Mustimuhw cEMR, or other related electronic medical record charting system will be considered an asset

Must have a valid BC Drivers' license, access to a reliable vehicle, and be prepared to travel within the region
