Job Profile:
This position plays a key role in the promotion of safer beaches, parks, recreational and cultural spaces to make them more attractive for use by the public of all ages during the busy summer season. It performs primarily the duties of educator and ambassador for the District of Ucluelet by monitoring and encouraging compliance as well as educating the public on the District’s bylaws. This position is also responsible for the prompt reporting of any damage and hazards found to enable remedial action.

Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct regular patrols on foot, bicycle and vehicle
• Interpret and explain bylaws and complaint procedures to residents and visitors
• Prepare reports on monitoring activities, public interactions, and feedback as requested
• Follow-up on received complaints as requested
• Attendance and participation in meetings, as requested
• Acknowledge and comply with time-sensitive issues to ensure effective resolution

Qualifications

Education and Experience:
• Training in security or a combination of education and experience satisfactory to the employer
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Municipality’s bylaws
• Experience working in a municipal setting is an asset

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to manage positive interaction with the public, and resolve conflict as necessary
• Ability to deal with stressful situations and to react quickly with good judgement, diplomacy and tact
• Strong leadership attributes, with the ability to act in a professional manner

Job Description

To serve as a member of a rehabilitation crew on the WCT.
Responsibilities include but not limited to the following
• rehabilitation of boardwalk (removal and rebuild) minor trail maintenance (drainage or grading) maintenance of major infrastructure (ladders, bridges, etc.) trail brushing, and trail rerouting.
• Shift work schedules (8 on /6 off) that will require weekends, and holidays. Ability to be adapted to backcountry camp set up

• Applicants must be physically fit, reliable and able to commit for the duration of the project
• Crew members must supply their own boots, rain gear. (PPE will be supplied)

The Wild Pacific Trail Society is seeking an engaging, energetic and self-confident student to fill this position.    
As a Trail Ambassador, the student will be based outdoors on the Wild Pacific Trail, actively interacting with visitors to the Ucluelet area.    

The position is 40 hours per week from mid-May to the end of August.   Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old and be currently enrolled full-time in a recognized post-secondary education program with the intent to return to their academic studies in September 2018. Wage is $14 to $15/hour depending on qualifications.    

Please Note:  Living accommodations are not provided, successful candidate is responsible in securing his/her own residence.  

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Provide a friendly presence on the trail, welcoming visitors, responding to questions, offering orientation and general information.
  • Develop and deliver educational programming about the natural history and environment of the west coast. • Conduct/lead nature guided walks on various sections of the trail.
  • Enhance visitors’ environmental awareness and stewardship.   
  • Assist with exhibit /display development including the designing of props and teaching aids.
  • Support the promotion of the trail through the distribution of marketing materials.
  • Research and develop curriculum for the Trail’s Ambassador program. 

 

Qualifications
  • Enrollment in a post-secondary program in natural sciences, education, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of local history, ecology and communities.
  • Self-motivated, demonstrates initiative, ability to work alone and in teams
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
  • History as a resident of the Ucluelet-Long Beach area is an asset.
  • Current First Aid & Valid Driver’s License is an asset.

Applicant needs a Driver’s licence and food safe certificate.

The position is seasonal from May 1 – Oct 1

5 days a week with 2 days off, 8 – 10 hours per day at the peak of the season. In May, the hours would be less and gradually increasing closer to the busy season which is July 1-Sept 15.

Staff accommodation is available if required.

Majestic Ocean Kayaking offers excellent salaries and benefits to employees. Position starts at $16.00 – $18.00 per hour depending on experience. There is an opportunity to earn more if the duties are satisfactorily met in a timely manner and if the quality is consistently high.

You will assist the Meat Manager with all operations of the meat department with annual sales over one million.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Come to work with a positive, professional approach and attitude
  • Be dependable for all scheduled shifts
  • Provide outstanding courteous customer service
  • Be familiar with and adhere to all Ucluelet Co-op policies and procedures
  • Sharpen and adjust cutting equipment
  • Receive, inspect, and store meat upon delivery
  • Cut, bone, or grind pieces of meat
  • Weigh, wrap, and display cuts of meat
  • Cut or prepare meats to specification or customer’s orders
  • Store meats in refrigerators or freezers at the required temperature
  • Keep inventory of meat sales and order meat supplies
  • Clean equipment and work areas to maintain health and sanitation standards
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • A secondary school diploma is preferred
  • Formal Meat Cutting Training program is considered an asset
  • Food Safe Certification is required
  • Food preparation experience is considered an asset
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Willingness to learn and participate in meat manager training progra

Preference will be given to candidates with CRS experience. We welcome candidates with a combination of relevant education and experience to apply.

Flexible, must be willing to work a variety of hours, including days, evenings as well as weekends and holidays based on the business needs

Physical Requirements:

  • Constant standing and walking throughout shift for up to 8 hours
  • Physically demanding; frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs
  • Kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting
  • Occasional ascending or descending stairs
  • Working in cold rooms for extended periods of time

Tofino Nature Kids is an outdoor learning program with summer camps serving ages 3 - 12 in Tofino and Ucluelet, BC. Our program incorporates elements from the Forest School model, Waldorf Education and the 8 Shields model of mentoring. We provide a variety of opportunities for children to explore and develop deeper connections with the natural world, each other and themselves.

RESPONSIBILITIES: This role focuses on collaborative facilitation of a curriculum that models respect and deep nature connection. Assistant facilitators will be expected to bring and contribute to daily activities including morning and closing circles, nature stories and songs, games, organized activities (crafts and survival skills) and free play on the beach and in the forest while ensuring safety and inclusion of all children. The skills the children are learning are passed on through role-modeling and one-on-one guidance. Assistant facilitators will be expected to help with setup and cleanup as well as keeping children’s belongings and school materials organized and in good condition through the day.

DATES and HOURS:

Summer Season Dates: July 3rd – September 1st 

*Required summer briefing session on either June 29th or July 1st in Tofino.

Tofino Nature Kids summer programs run 8:30 - 4:30, Monday to Friday Position hours may vary weekly (30 - 35 hours/week)

COMPENSATION/BENEFITS:

  • $14/hour training (1 week) then $15/hour depending on experience

Qualifications

Due to funding restrictions, applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old and be enrolled fulltime in a recognized secondary or post-secondary education program. Applicants must also be registered to return to school in September 2018.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS:

  • Must have current certification in First Aid and CPR and criminal record check • MUST HAVE local accommodation and driver’s license / use of a vehicle to travel to camp locations
  • Must have experience leading groups of children ages 3 - 12
  • Demonstrate good judgment and discernment
  • Have good communication skills, ability to work as part of a team, and ability to communicate effectively with children, parents and staff
  • Be dedicated to professionalism – on time, ready to go, clean appearance, timely response to phone and email communications and uphold agreements
  • Uphold Tofino Nature Kids Policies and respect other users of outdoor common areas
  • Demonstrate experience and comfort with being outdoors all day

PREFERRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

  • Experience with the Forest School model and Coyote Mentoring method or equivalent
  • Experience with Waldorf teaching methods
  • Strong survival skills and knowledge of Pacific Northwest flora and fauna
  • Bilingual French and English
