SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Yard Worker is critical to the successful operation of a Windsor Plywood Store. It is responsible for products & materials entering, stored & leaving the Yard and the Store. This includes responsibility for sorting, picking, replenishment, yard cleaning, transfers, and inventory control. The Yard Worker is driven to produce high-paced quality results that create positive first impressions for customers upon entering the yard.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Order picking, pulling, palletizing, staging & loading
Assisting Contractors and other customers with locating products

KEY REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Grade 12 Education | Prior Yard experience is an asset
Applicants with prior Building Material Supply experience will be given preference. However, applicants will professional skills from other industries will be strongly considered and provided industry training from Windsor Plywood.

Monitors will be based in Tofino and work on the dock meeting fishing vessels as they land. Duties will be to monitor and document catch at offloads, and collect biological data on catch.

Fisheries are anticipated to commence April 01, 2021 and run until November 30, 2021. Actual length of fisheries is not known and set number of workdays is not guaranteed. 

Pursuant to Section 16(1) of the Canadian Human Rights Act, preference will be given to aboriginal candidates who have a working knowledge of Nuu-chah-nulth culture and fishing practices

Full Time - Seasonal (1 position):
The full time monitor will be the contact for skippers and monitors on the weekends. This position will consist of full work days starting at 7am on weekends and potential split shifts on Monday Tuesday and Wednesday.

Responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring the “Hail” Phone from 7AM-7PM on weekends and updating a hail sheet accordingly.
  • Managing the logistics of fishing vessels landing in Zeballos, Gold River and Tofino.
  • Communicating with fishers and plant managers to organize offload times and locations.
  • Working closely with the Deployment coordinator.
  • Entering fishing vessel landing data in excel.
  • Collect accurate data at the dock from vessel offloads.
  • Collect biological samples at the dock.
  • Keep professional positive relationships with everyone you work with. 
Qualifications
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication.
  • Experience with data entry and excel (preferred).
  • Available to work weekends.
  • Be on-call to monitor potential fishing vessel offloads during the day on Monday-Wednesday.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast paced environment.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Comfortable working on docks, fishing vessels, and handling fish.
  • Maintain professional working relationship at all times.
  • Does NOT hold a Fisher’s registration card or certificate of accreditation.

POSITION DETAILS: 

Status: Permanent, full-time

Shift: 8 days on, 6 days off; 10 hours per day for a total of 80 hours bi-weekly

Starting Wage: $19.35 per hour  

Benefits: Immediate (during COVID-19). To provide additional support to our employees and their families, employer-paid benefits inclusive of Extended Health & Dental will be accessible upon hiring. After successful completion of your probationary period you will be eligible to participate in our RRSP program.

A DAY ON THE JOB: 

  • Provide support to the sea site through general husbandry operations, ensuring a healthy lifecycle of the fish from smolt intakes, growth, to harvest 
  • Apply appropriate feeding strategies to grow and manage fish welfare, either through hand feeding or auto-feeding techniques 
  • Monitor fish activity and conduct environmental monitoring and sampling activities to ensure proper fish welfare 
  • Maintain a clean and safe site by performing simple maintenance, following bio security, setting up sites, and closing sites 
  • Operating heavy machinery such as forklifts and watercraft 
Qualifications
  • You have previous education or work experience in aquaculture, preferably within a salmon rearing setting 
  • A team player; gets along great with others and are always looking to lend a hand 
  • Ability to work independently, without supervision; you take initiative and apply your critical thinking skills to solve problems 
  • You are physically fit, enjoy being outside, are willing to work in all types of weather conditions and are comfortable being on the water 
  • You are dependable, safety conscious, have a strong work ethic and positive attitude 
  • Maintenance experience would be considered an asset

  • Prerequisites include a physical fitness test (where available), a criminal record check and reference checks 
  • Camp-based position, transportation is provided to the sea site from Port McNeil, Campbell River and Tofino

  • Performing a wide variety of different, repetitive job tasks including cleaning fish, grading fish, managing boxes, operating forklifts, lifting and stacking of heavy boxes.
Qualifications
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment that is focused on teamwork
  • Physically fit, strong, and the ability to do physically demanding labour work
  • You have great interpersonal skills and can work in a dynamic team with all sorts of personalities
  • Candidates must be dependable, a team member who is hardworking, knows how to have fun, and be reliable
  • Past experience in fish processing plant, forklift experience, or knowledge of food safety would be considered an asset

Special requirements:

  • Prerequisites to hiring include a physical fitness test (where available) , criminal record check, and reference checks.
  • Only applicants who are legally allowed to work in Canada will be considered.
  • Transportation is provided to and from work.

  • Maintain a tidy appearance and adhere to dress code
  • Content creation support for Tourism Ucluelet marketing strategy as needed
Qualifications
  • Preferred - Experience in hospitality/ tourism/ customer service/sales
  • Previous experience in sales, inventory and cash handling
  • Understanding of social media platforms and on-line search
  • Clear communication skills, written, verbal and phone
  • Knowledge of Apple and Microsoft Operating systems, Square payment system as asset
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Can work independently and in a team environment
  • Highly organized
  • Knowledge of local area
  • Visitor Information Counsellor certificate or Tourism Professional Certification (National) and/or WorldHost® Fundamentals – an asset but not required
  • Second language an asset but not required
