  • A secondary school diploma is preferred
  • Past experience in marketing (social media, website and graphic development)
  • Experience in people-oriented fields
  • Professional appearance and attitude
  • Excellent communication skills, organization, time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Aptitude for grantsmanship, philanthropy, and sponsorship
  • Ability to work independently and contribute to a team environment
  • Access and experience in graphic design and print media

Working conditions:

Flexible, must be willing to work a variety of hours, including days, nights as well as weekends and holidays based on Society needs.

The Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council/Teechuklth (Mental Health Program) is seeking a term (for backfill coverage), part-time or full-time Quu’asa Wellness Worker(s) to provide culturally-based support to Nuu-chah-nulth Central Region individuals, families and communities, with an emphasis of providing support to First Nations people involved in high risk life-styles.  Based out of the NTC Central Region Office (Tofino) this position involves regular Travel (by vehicle, boat, and airplane) into the communities of Ahousaht, Ty-Histanis, Opitsaht and Hot Springs is required for this position.

Responsibilities Include

  • To provide direct support to individuals, families, and communities
  • To facilitate cultural learning activities, and ceremonies that provides cultural healing and mental wellness
  • To facilitate family support networks and facilitate family connections
  • To work with other staff to respond to crisis and mobilize community strength in response 
  • To maintain reports, forms, and all required documents within timelines
Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of Grade 12/GED, plus knowledge of Nuu-chah-nulth cultural-healing practices  
  • Front-line experience working with aboriginal people
  • Experience in programs to facilitate transformation from addiction
  • Awareness of western mental health approaches to counselling and recovery
  • Experience working in a First Nations environment or being a First Nations person will be considered an asset
  • Possess a valid BC Driver’s License and have daily access to reliable vehicle
  • Available to work evenings and weekends, and travel by boat or plane when required
  • Provide acceptable references and criminal record check
  • Be willing and able to demonstrate compliance with NTC Vaccination Policy (COVID-19)

Infant Toddler Educator Tlucha Child Care Centre Permanent Full Time Position The Infant Toddler Educator reports to the Child Care Manager and will be part of a team that will plan and implement a culturally based child care program that is designed to give each child an opportunity to participate in experiences that will enable them to reach their full potential.   • Conducts pre-trip and post-trip inspections in accordance with B.C. Motor Vehicle Act, National Safety Code and CVSE guidelines
  • Regularly fuels vehicle
  • Reports defects to vehicle maintenance personnel, assists in assessing maintenance problems and performs
  • Ensures the safe loading, riding and unloading of students
  • Consults with the Transportation Manager regarding bus routes, passengers, discipline problems and traffic violation reports
  • Ensures interior and exterior cleanliness of school bus

  • Shares in the responsibility for planning, preparing and implementing stimulating, culturally based, age-appropriate activities that encourage children’s creativity and learning and promote each child’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical development.
  • Participates fully and consistently as a conscientious team member in caring for the children and in the overall operation of the program and centre.
  • Maintains regular and open communication with program team members and all other co-workers.
  • Establishes and maintains regular communication with parents.
  • Ensures the program operates at all times in compliance with all child care licensing standards.
  • Observes and records relevant information on each child's progress as required/as per Centre practices.
  • Attends and participates actively in all programs, parental or other staff meetings as required.
  • Shares responsibility for maintaining program equipment in good repair; assists with toy/equipment disinfecting.
  • Shares responsibility for maintaining the play environments and storage areas in an organized and clutter-free condition.
  • Participates in regular fire drills and other emergency procedures.
  • Engages in positive collaboration with the other programs and early childhood educators of the centre in coordinating the effective use of equipment, facilities and personnel.
  • Participates in ongoing professional development and attends/maintains all mandatory training requirements.
  • Participates in the supervision, training and mentoring of students and supply teachers.

Qualifications
  • Early Childhood Education/Development certificate or diploma

Job Summary

The Pacific Rim Better at Home (PRBH) is a United Way BC program designed to help elders/older adults remain independent at home by assisting with services that are challenging to do on their own. The home cleaning services are one of the services we provide to clients, age 55 years and older. Clients apply for the program and are able to receive a subsidy, based on their annual income- some clients will pay in full and others will be subsidized by the program funding.

The Pacific Rim Better at Home Cleaner, plays a critical role in trust building, supporting and socializing with the elders/older adults while cleaning their home. The Home Cleaner is an interdisciplinary team member of the Pacific Rim Better at Home Program and ensures that care, support and home cleaning are delivered in an effective and efficient manner, while maintaining the spirit, dignity and individual needs of the clients, their families, and loved ones.

Light house cleaning duties include the following (cleaning supplies provided):

  • Mopping and vacuuming floors
  • Dusting
  • Wiping cupboards, countertops and appliances
  • Cleaning toilets, sinks, showers and tubs
  • Removing garbage
  • Laundry
  • Spot washing of walls
  • Washing inside of windows

Working Conditions

  • Requires flexible availability to accommodate a work schedule that may include on-call services with reasonable notice.  Travel inter-community is required.
  • Job is part time with varying hours.  Approx. 5-10 hours per week, flexible schedule with future increased hours expected.

Starting wage is $21/hour.

This position reports directly to the Pacific Rim Better at Home Program Coordinator.

Currently Seeking:

We are currently looking for a Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Chef. Working in close collaboration with the Head Chef, we are looking for a new team member to take over their duties on days off, during which time you will be assisted by another staff member.

Duties will include:

  • Assisting head chef with meal preparation;
  • Dishwashing and helping with maintaining high standards of cleanliness;
  • Assisting head chef with stock management and orders;
  • Maintenance / replenishment of guests' bar (coffee, tea, etc.).

Due to the nature of Cedar Coast’s operation, you may be required to help on duties outside the kitchen on an occasional basis.

We have 11 different size canvas style tents which can accommodate anywhere from 1-6 guests. You may be assisted on an occasional basis by another staff member, depending on workload and availability.

Duties:

  • Strip, clean and prepare tents as required by guests arrival and departure
  • Maintain a high level of cleanliness of the shower house
  • Participate in general cleaning of the Lodge
  • Launder linens, towels, etc. and keep store appropriately in an organized fashion
  • Monitor cleaning and housekeeping supplies and communicate with the person in charge to coordinate orders.
  • Tidy and restock of housekeeping items

Due to the nature of Cedar Coast’s operation, you may be required to help on duties outside the kitchen on an occasional basis.

Accommodation on Vargas Island may be provided for the right applicant.

The Westcoast Transition House is a safe and confidential home run by women, for women and children who have experienced or at risk for violence. Our warm staff gives women and children the opportunity to be safe, to be heard, to be understood and respected. In addition to a safe emergency shelter, we also operate a 24 hour line to provide information and referrals to other resources both within and outside the Society.

We are currently seeking female workers for our casual pool to cover for absences. As a Transition House Worker, you will be responsible for providing support, advocacy, information, activities and referrals for Transition house resident women and their children. You will participate as a team member to ensure safe, healthy, and cohesive transition house operations and facility. This position requires union membership.

Shifts are 12.5 hours and offered to casual staff every two weeks.  The number of shifts available vary depending on full-time staff absences and there is no obligation to accept shifts.

 

Qualifications
  1. A combination of education and experience in a related human/social service field
  2. Understanding of feminist analysis and the dynamics and causes of violence against women in relationships
  3. Ability to work alone for extended period of time
  4. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills dealing with people in crisis and of different backgrounds
  5. Familiarity with West Coast communities
  6. Foster team participation and contribute to the goals and activities of the Westcoast Community Resources Society as well as the Transition House program
  7. Awareness of and willingness to work on personal issues and triggers as they arise
  8. A moderate level of physical fitness is required to fulfill the expectations of this position
