Tofino Harbour Authority (THA) is a non-profit organization that manages three federal fishing docks in Tofino, Canada. THA is made up of a team of management staff and a volunteer Board of Directors who work collaboratively to manage the facilities in accordance with the Small Craft Harbours, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, mandate to ensure core fishing harbours are kept open and in good repair.

We currently are accepting applicants to fill a full-time seasonal position as Harbour Assistant Manager from April 1 – August 31 2019 with the potential for a permanent year-round contract for the right candidate. Successful applicants should be reliable, professional, motivated, positive, and enjoy working outdoors in all weather. Application deadline is March 10th at 4pm PST.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Perform multiple daily foot patrols of all docks and upland facilities to ensure that facilities are safe and functional
  • Perform daily boat counts and manage seasonal parking enforcement
  • Provide customer service to Harbour users and members of the public
  • Collect fees for use of the public boat ramp, moorage, and all other services provided by THA using a computer-based POS system
  • Ensure all harbour users comply with all Harbour Authority rules and regulations, and enforce rules and regulations when necessary
  • Enforce harbour policies in a professional manner
  • Manage the cleaning of bathrooms, showers, laundry room
  • Manage garbage and recycling facilities, sort oil recycling, maintain litter-free facilities
  • Perform maintenance projects, as needed
  • Assist Harbour Manager with hiring and training summer employees
  • Act as primary point of contact for summer employees, overseeing their day-to-day work
  • Respond accordingly to emergencies onsite
  • Other tasks and duties as required
     
Qualifications
  • Experience working in a managerial capacity
  • Experience in the not-for-profit sector
  • Possess exceptional customer service and conflict resolution skills
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Able to perform extensive foot patrols in all weather conditions
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Ability to work independently and as a team
  • Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Marine industry experience is an asset
  • College or University-level education is preferred

What You Do.

  • Liaison between Marketing Manager, TRM staff and our fabulous team of contractors (PR firm, Photographers, videographers, graphic designers and story tellers)
  • Keep the community of Tofino and the world up to date with events. Work closely with the restaurants and room division to update the website content, Facebook events and local advertising.
  • Familiarity with the latest social media technologies and basic understanding of graphic design principles
  • Serve as primary social media executor developing original and curated content for posts, corporate marketing and sales material
  • Manages day-to-day social media operations
  • Developing local tactics to get the word out about our company and drive qualified traffic to our front door
  • Have a little experience with - content creation, content curation, pay per click campaigns, event management, publicity, social media, lead generation campaigns, copywriting, performance analysis – or be eager to learn.
  • Build relationships with key local players to develop referral deals and drive business to TRM
  • Work with Graphic Designer and Copy writer to develop all marketing collaterals (events posters, table toppers, Eventbrite, etc.)
  • Provide support for trade shows and all internal events
  • Provide live coverage of special events and other relevant programs on Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook.

Qualifications

Creative Salmon is Canada’s first producer of certified organic farm-raised salmon, growing indigenous Pacific Chinook salmon at 4 farm sites in the waters of Clayoquot Sound near Tofino.

Farm Technicians are responsible for general farm operations such as net cleaning, basic maintenance, assistance during harvesting, feeding and care of fish, operating boats and equipment, as well as other tasks. As the majority of the work is performed outdoors, the ability to tolerate all weather conditions is important.

Because farming is a team effort, reliability and dependable attendance is mandatory. 

As well as a competitive wage, after a three month probationary period, we offer a company paid benefits package. Crew transportation is provided from Ucluelet, Tofino and Long Beach communities.

Qualifications

Previous experience in an aquaculture or marine setting is an asset, but on-the-job training is provided.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Operating a variety of equipment to fulfill job duties; including but not limited to: leaf-blowers, hedge trimmers, lawn -trimmers , mowers,power washers, saws and compactors.
  • Operating basic hand tools such as shovels, rakes, etc.
  • Operating all equipment in a safe and efficient way according to all relevant policies and procedures
  • Planting and maintaining shrubs/trees
  • Installing and maintaining gardens/landscaping weeding, bark mulch, watering, planting.
  • Gutter/roof cleaning and power washing
  • Repairing, maintaining and installing pavers
  • Repairing and maintaining sump pumps and drainage systems
  • Construction using landscape ties , occasional rock work, taking measurements and small concrete work
  • Maintaining a professional appearance and dealing with the public in a courteous and respectful manner at all times

Working Conditions:

This job is physically demanding and requires healthy and sober individuals with no pre-existing physical injuries or conditions.

The position will be working outdoors in all weather conditions including significant amounts of rainfall and windy conditions,

 The applicant must be able to stand/kneel and walk for extended periods of time, lift and carry heavy objects of 50 pounds+, and do repetitive tasks.

Compensation:

Wages are competitive and based on knowledge and experience will start at rates between:

Ocean Outfitters is looking to hire a full time fishing guide with a positive and enthusiastic personality capable of entertaining a myriad of guests from a variety of demographics and nationalities. Fishing is only one aspect of what we promote through our fishing excursions, therefore the candidate should subsequently possess a thorough knowledge of local ecology, indigenous and migratory wildlife common to our region, and a grasp of local First Nation’s history. The Co-operative Retailing System (CRS) is a unique, multi-billion-dollar organization based on the fundamental principles of co-operation. It is comprised of a network of approximately 200 autonomous retail co-operatives across Western Canada along with their branch operations, and Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL). FCL is the wholesaling/manufacturing arm of the CRS, which provides the retail co-ops with a range of products and services. FCL has supported Co-op Pharmacies in 68 locations across Western Canada. This will be the first Co-op Pharmacy on Vancouver Island.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Hold a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree
  • Currently be a licensed Pharmacist – having or capable of obtaining BC licensing -- and in good standing
  • Possess Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
  • Perform to a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Possess superior interpersonal skills, with a commitment to providing exceptional customer service
  • Be highly organized, take initiative, and have excellent problem- solving and decision-making skills
  • Possess pharmacy management experience or demonstrate positive potential for serving successfully as pharmacy manager.

The Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre is searching for two full-time cooks for our fall and winter season. As members of our production team, these cooks will be involved in providing daily service to our students, researchers, and guests, as well as some special event production.

About us: The Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre (BMSC) is a shared satellite campus of five universities, operating educational programs from approximately February 1st to December 15th each year. BMSC is located on the west coast of Vancouver Island in the beautiful and remote village of Bamfield, British Columbia. Our kitchen provides healthy innovative meals for our student and research clientele as we strive to provide a "from scratch" culinary experience. The kitchen at BMSC is well equipped, clean, and fully functional to provide three meals a day for up to 150 diners.

 

Qualifications

A Red Seal is always preferred, FOODSAFE is required. A sound background in all aspects of kitchen operation is a strong asset. We also welcome candidates with experience in catering production. These positions require a strong personality, the ability to take direction clearly and a desire to be a positive, reliable member of our crew. Cooks are responsible for daily breakfast, lunch and dinner production in our unionized work environment.
