A positive and happy attitude is mandatory, and an interest in the medical field would be preferred.

The Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government – Ucluelet First Nation is seeking a Chairperson for the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government Legislature and hitac̓u Assemblies as outlined in the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Constitution and Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ laws. Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ business is conducted through virtual platforms such as Zoom until further notice.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Chairperson is responsible to act as the presiding member of the Legislature at meetings of the Legislature and to manage the affairs of the Legislature. The Chairperson is also responsible to act as the Chairperson at all meetings of the Hitacu Assembly. Please see Part 3 of the Legislature Rules of Order and Procedure Act for a full description of the Duties and Powers of the Chairperson. For detailed information on the selection process of the Chairperson, please see Part 2 of the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government Act YFNS 2/2011. The first meeting of the Legislature for the 2019 – 2023 term will be held no later than May 15, 2019

Qualifications

EDUCATION/TRAINING/CERTIFICATION

  • Prefer an Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration or related degree
  • Grade 12 with a combination of relevant training and experience

Tasks and Responsibilities:

Communications
 Monitor and maintain CBT social media profiles, learning to align posts with communications strategy and building digital and communications skills.
 Create 2-3 newsletters during employment term and update website as needed.
 Support communications with donors and partners.
 Develop databases and improve contact management systems.
 Provide communications support for Neighbourhood Small Grants Island Network, a Vancouver-Island network co-led by CBT.
 Select and deliver a special project aligned with applicant skills; staff with a variety of skills can mentor candidate on one of the following projects depending on the applicant’s interests and experience:
o analyze data collected over past 5 years of small community grant making and report on trends
o create a “story bank” sharing stories from small community grants
o document and share contemporary themes in community development and COVID-19 recovery, such as regional food security, through a photography and writing project.

Administration
 Maintain office presence (either remotely, in person, or a blend of both depending on public health guidelines during the time of employment) by monitoring phone and info@clayoquotbiosphere.org email address. General upkeep of office premises as required.
 Provides front-line support to all office visitors including volunteers, grantees and donors.
 Provides administrative support for all programs and staff.
 Provides support for board of directors and committee meetings.

The successful candidate should have a positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills or a willingness to develop interpersonal skills, proficient computer skills, the ability to work productively both in a professional shared office setting (located at 316 Main Street, Tofino and from your home (equipment will be provided), and have an interest in sustainable community development, communications, writing, and administration

The successful candidate will learn all aspects of municipal parks operations.   • Master’s degree in Psychology, Counselling, or related professional qualification with a specialization in mental health
  • 5-years front line experience, with at least 3-years working with aboriginal people

The District of Tofino is seeking an energetic, creative, adventurous individual to fill the role of
Recreation Summer Student, on a temporary full‐time basis, in the Community Sustainability
Department. The position will begin on Monday, June 14, 2021.

Reporting to the Manager of Community Sustainability, the Summer Recreation Programmer
performs duties related to the provision of recreational services to the residents of Tofino. The
Summer Recreation Programmer coordinates, promotes and implements recreational programs,
summer camps and special events for diverse program offerings in sport, outdoor, social, arts
and cultural areas. The Summer Recreation Programmer will facilitate and lead, liaise with other
Recreation Staff as well as participants, contractors, and parents.

The Summer Recreation Programmer works with the Manager of Community Sustainability, Recreation Programmer 1 and Recreation Programmer 2 to develop weekly camp plans and host special events.
The ideal candidates will have the ability to be inclusive and flexible to ensure a positive
environment is created for all participants; demonstrated customer service and interpersonal
skills; ability to maintain a high degree of enthusiasm and personal motivation. Applicant will be
required to complete a criminal record check.

  • Emergency First‐Aid and CPR (C)

weekend shifts (hours/shifts are subject to change).

Kootenay Adaptive Sport Association, in partnership with Access BC, is providing up to 14 BCEA Persons with Disabilities (PWD) in BC communities with work experience and skills enhancement in Universal Design and Physical Literacy education, which will increase their opportunities for sustainable employment.

Previous experience is NOT REQUIRED; this is a work experience opportunity for those with a keen interest in this field of work.

Applicants must be on BC Employment Assistance with a PWD designation.

Planning and Research Assistant duties will include developing a detailed data base of stakeholders, recreation sites, trails, and amenities with specifics related to accessibility, COVID safety and physical literacy, and assisting in the facilitation of the planning process to determine master plan recommendations for municipalities, landowners, stewards and stakeholders.

Participants will gain hands-on work experience/skills through the following activities:

  • Performing reseach related to accessibility, physical literacy and COVID policy which could include assessing trails using an adapted mountain bike
  • Conducting detailed assessments of parks and trails
  • Collecting and reviewing data, report writing, and making recommendations for planning accessibility in your community
  • Participating in stakeholder engagement and community consultations to positively influence accessibility in your community

POSITION DETAILS: 

Status: Permanent, full-time

Shift: 8 days on, 6 days off; 10 hours per day for a total of 80 hours bi-weekly

Starting Wage: $19.35 per hour  

Benefits: Immediate (during COVID-19). To provide additional support to our employees and their families, employer-paid benefits inclusive of Extended Health & Dental will be accessible upon hiring. A DAY ON THE JOB: 

  • Provide support to the sea site through general husbandry operations, ensuring a healthy lifecycle of the fish from smolt intakes, growth, to harvest 
  • Apply appropriate feeding strategies to grow and manage fish welfare, either through hand feeding or auto-feeding techniques 
  • Monitor fish activity and conduct environmental monitoring and sampling activities to ensure proper fish welfare 
  • Maintain a clean and safe site by performing simple maintenance, following bio security, setting up sites, and closing sites 
  • Operating heavy machinery such as forklifts and watercraft 
Qualifications
  • You have previous education or work experience in aquaculture, preferably within a salmon rearing setting 
  • A team player; gets along great with others and are always looking to lend a hand 
  • Ability to work independently, without supervision; you take initiative and apply your critical thinking skills to solve problems 
  • You are physically fit, enjoy being outside, are willing to work in all types of weather conditions and are comfortable being on the water 
  • You are dependable, safety conscious, have a strong work ethic and positive attitude 
  • Maintenance experience would be considered an asset

  • Prerequisites include a physical fitness test (where available), a criminal record check and reference checks 
  • Camp-based position, transportation is provided to the sea site from Port McNeil, Campbell River and Tofino

  • Physically fit, strong, and the ability to do physically demanding labour work
  • You have great interpersonal skills and can work in a dynamic team with all sorts of personalities

We require experienced cooks capable of cooking from scratch for up to 50. We do not have microwaves in our kitchen. Knowledge of fresh and dried herbs/spices for cooking is essential. Baking, ability to make various kinds of salads and sandwich artistry is required.

Must be hard working, extremely organized, willing to clean, do dishes and be comfortable interacting in a professional manner with guests and coworkers. This position requires the ability and willingness to do both Lead and 2nd cook duties. Light housekeeping duties may be required at times when needed. Ability to follow Food Safe and Work Safe regulations.

Start date is mid May to end September.

A commitment to end September is required. The work schedule is 2 weeks in / 1 week out. Daily wage includes transportation to lodge, accommodations, all meals and the use of a kayak when available on down time. PLEASE NOTE: We do not supply accommodation, meals, etc. while on your week off.

Job Description:

  • Refer to Daily Prep List at the start of each shift for assigned duties.
  • Prepares a variety of meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables and other food items for cooking in broilers, ovens, grills, fryers and a variety of other kitchen equipment.
  • Set up workstations and ingredients so that food can be prepared according to recipes.
  • Prepare a variety meat, seafood, poultry, vegetables and other food items for cooking in various types of food equipment.
  • Undertake basic cooking duties, such as reducing sauces and parboiling food.
  • Prepare simple dishes, such as salads and entrees.
  • Follows proper plate presentation and garnishes.
  • Uses our standard recipes for preparing all products.
  • Maintains a clean and sanitary workstation area
  • Close kitchen properly and follow the closing checklist for kitchen stations.
  • Inform Executive Chef immediately of any product shortages.

  • Preparing/portioning a batch of pizza dough as well as feeding their respective starters daily
  • The forno is the centerpiece of the restaurant and is an open section: at all times sanitation and cleanliness are paramount
  • Feeding the wood fire and maintaining proper quantities of wood stock are required
  • Keeping the meat slicers sharp and well maintained
  • An ability to stretch and make a pizza in under 1.5 minutes 
  • Responsible for most of your own prep
  • Communicating orders and low stock levels to the chef

  • Talking to guests at the bar while keeping in mind company policies and standards 
  • Adjusting par levels to forecasted reservations is a vital skill

Tourism Tofino is searching for Visitor Service Counsellors to start between May 1st and June 30th, 2021.

You will promote the Tofino destination by providing exceptional and personalized service that encourages exploration and discovery and converts inquiries into bookings of activities, attractions and services. This creates higher visitor satisfaction, increased spending, return visits and destination advocacy.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide Visitors Services and host at the District of Tofino pop up dinner tents.
  • Welcome all visitors to the Visitor Center and/or mobile activation’s. Determine needs and service visitors by providing complete and accurate information;
  • Assist visitors in a professional, prompt and friendly manner via email, social media, phone, mail, and in person;
  • Assist visitors with accommodations, tours, ferry reservations etc. in response to visitor requests as needed/requested;
  • Maintain high level of community knowledge on activities and attractions;
  • Research relevant community information (events, services, facilities) that may be of interest to visitor;
  • Keep brochure racks, retail displays and storage organized and well-stocked. Re-order brochures when necessary;
  • Accurately record visitor statistical data in accordance with Tourism Tofino specifications;
  • Maintain and update files and reference materials for the Visitor Center on a continual basis;
  • Post current information of interest to the visitor (Road Reports, Tourist Alert, Weather, Fisheries, etc.);
  • Make sales transactions for merchandise sold and do daily cash-out reports;
  • Provide visitor services at special events or festivals;
  • Wear clean and well-maintained designated uniform and nametag while on shift;
  • Attend monthly meetings and training events such as: in-service training, product knowledge, familiarization tours, and site visits;
  • Fulfill information requests and distribute Tourism Tofino materials while developing and maintaining excellent member relations;
  • Maintain facilities and grounds as needed. 
  • Other duties as assigned by Visitor Services Manager
Qualifications
  • Must have local accommodation
  • Between the age of 15 and 30, Canadian resident or citizen as per Canada Summer job funding.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written and telephone);
  • Friendly and outgoing demeanor;
  • Must work well independently as well as part of a team;
  • Proficient computer skills specifically Microsoft Office, internet search and social media;

As our Receptionist you will be the first point of contact and impression for our organization.   • Organization and maintenance of mail logging system in place. All incoming and out-going mail gets called out to recipients or sent by Canada Post or Courier.
  • General tidying of office areas. Board room, front office / reception area.
  • General office operations, filling of paper in machines, operation of postage machine, copier, fax machine, filing, making copies as needed, distribution of staff mail arriving by post office box, fax, email etc.
  • All other duties as assigned by HR and Tribal Administrator
  • Office support / duties as required from other TFN Staff
Qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma
  • Experience: 1-2 years of related experience in office environment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software suite.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with high level of interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks according to importance in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to handle conflict with sound judgement
  • Multi-tasking capability without compromising on quality

Qualifications

Skills and/or training should exhibit:

  • Professional, creative, energetic personality.
  • Responsible, punctual and well organized.
  • Outgoing and customer service oriented. 
  • Teaching, Coaching and/or Instruction skills 
  • Surfing or paddleboarding experience (2 or more years of personal experience)

Required Certifications:

  • First Aid and CPR-C
  • Bronze Cross (or higher level of lifesaving)
  • Paddle Canada Advanced Flatwater Instructor (or higher level SUP instructor certification)
  • Valid driver’s license (an asset)
