  • Maintains cleanliness of equipment and work area; assists with linens inventory count
  • Checks and maintains chemical injection system and performs minor maintenance within laundry area
  • Reports equipment deficiencies and damage to Maintenance Manager
  • Practice health and safe work practices
  • Aware of our green commitments and emergency procedures

POSITION DETAILS:

Status:        Permanent, full-time position

Shift:           8 days on, 6 days off; 10 hours per day for a total of 80 hours every two weeks

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

  • Providing support to the seasite through general husbandry operations to ensure a healthy lifecycle of the fish from smolt intakes, to growth, to harvest
  • Applying appropriate feeding strategies to grow and manage fish welfare, either through hand feeding or auto-feeding techniques
  • Monitoring fish activity and conducting environmental monitoring and sampling activities to ensure proper fish welfare
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and biosecure site by performing simple maintenance, setting up sites, and closing sites
  • Operating heavy machinery such as forklifts and boats

 

Qualifications

  • You have previous education or work experience in aquaculture, preferably within a salmon rearing setting

Jamie’s Whaling Station Ltd. has been in operation since 1982 with locations in both Tofino & Ucluelet, offering whale watching, bear watching and hot springs cove tours. Our fleet of 9 vessels includes a mix of 12-passenger, zodiac-style boats as well as cabin cruisers, and larger Transport Canada Certified vessels (under 60 GT).
 
We are seeking experienced and certified Small Vessel Operators to conduct marine excursions aboard 12-passenger vessels, as well as operators with Master Limited, 60 GT certification(s). Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years prior experience (though extensive training of the company vessels and area is provided).

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Our vessel operators’ primary role is the safe operation of vessels.
  • Ensuring the comfort of all passengers is at the forefront of each tour, while creating a memorable experience through education, local knowledge and engaging discussions with our guests.
  • Basic maintenance and an understanding of mechanical & safety equipment on board is essential.
  • Must have a solid foundation and confidence in the ever-changing marine environment on the west coast.
  • Knowledge and firsthand experience of the local geography and wildlife is an asset.
  • Passion and personality are key attributes for this fast pace role, with a commitment to safety standards as the utmost priority.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS (60 GT Master Limited):
  • Master Limited 60 Ton certificate
  • SVMO or be a candidate for SVMO-R
  • Marine Emergency Duties A-2 (MED A-2)
  • Radio Operators Certificate Marine (ROC-MC)
  • Marine Basic First Aid
  • Seafarers Medical

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS (SVOP Driver/Guide, 12-passenger vessels):

  • Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP)
  • Marine Emergency Duties A-3 (MED A-3) *A-2 preferred
  • Radio Operators Certificate Marine (ROC-M)
  • Marine Basic First Aid
  • Seafarers Medical
*Jamie’s will sponsor all certificate renewals that are required by Transport Canada as part of the employment package.

Cycle Counter will perform merchandise inventory counts on a rotating basis to ensure counts are accurate, adjust on hand inventory, communicate with all levels of store management, and work closely with staff to ensure we are in  an IN-STOCK position at all times.

Key Account Responsibilities and Functions

(Include but are not limited to the following)

  • Act as an ambassador of the company with all employees and customers
  • Maintain an emphasis on a safety culture, customer service, and efficiency as top priorities
  • Perform ongoing, rotating inventory counts of merchandise
  • Ensure inventory is properly accounted for and controlled
  • Complete on hand adjustment of inventory
  • Responsible for updating product Bin labels and tags and supporting large vendor or category price changes
  • Communicate areas of the store that require maintenance or cleaning to store management
