•           Develop long- and short-range plans, goals and objectives through the implementation of Haahuupayuk strategic plan goals and                   directions

Qualifications

EDUCATION/TRAINING/CERTIFICATION

•           A Master’s degree in education or a related area or Bachelor’s degree and 5 years recent related experience,

•           Valid Certification, or eligible for certification, with the BC Teacher Regulation Branch

•           Preference may be given to candidates with direct experience working in Nuu-chah-nulth or other First Nations schools

•           Preference may be given to applicants who identify as Nuu-chah-nulth or other First Nations ancestry

EXPERIENCE

•           Record of exemplary administration as a school Vice Principal or Principal

•           Record of exemplary teaching at a variety of grade levels, preferable K-7

•           Demonstrated cultural competence with First Nations education teaching and/or leadership

•           Demonstrated ability as an effective instructional leader, with successful school leadership experience;

•           Experience working in an Independent First Nations Schools an asset

•           Elementary school experience preferred

•           Cooperative team building an asset

The Clayoquot Biosphere Trust (CBT) is seeking a full-time program coordinator to join our team for a one-year term.

About the Position

This four-day per week position offers an exciting opportunity to deliver a range of grant streams and projects related to our role as a regional community foundation and UNESCO Biosphere. The program coordinator also delivers other regional programs administered under the CBT umbrella, specifically the Coastal Family Resources Coalition (CFRC).

Job Purpose

Consistent with the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere programme and the mandate of
community foundations, your responsibilities as Program Coordinator includes coordinating
projects related to core priorities and stewarding grant processes. The program coordinator also
delivers other regional programs administered under the CBT umbrella, specifically the Coastal
Family Resources Coalition (CFRC).
Duties and Responsibilities
Healthy Community and Ecosystem Initiatives
• Communicates the Vital Signs community health report and maintains a strong network of
partners who contribute to this ongoing program.
• Collects and collates regional community health data pertaining to the social determinants of
health.
• Communicates the Clayoquot Sound Living Wage Report and maintains a network of partners
who work together to address regional affordability issues.
Program Coordination
• Coordinates projects related to CBT core priorities which include Empowering Youth and
Healthy Communities and Ecosystems and seeks funds to support implementation.

Education) and manages the recruitment, retention, and recognition of volunteers.
• Maintains CBT’s online granting system, including responding to granting requests and grantee
reporting, and user inquiries.
• Conducts analysis on granting activity data for the annual CBT impact report and program
evaluation.
• Coordinates the CBT/Genus Education Award Program.
Community Relations
• Maintains the profile and presence of the CBT through visits to communities and attendance
at events.
• Participates in local and regional committees aligned with CBT’s UNESCO Biosphere and
Community Foundation mandate and programs.
Teamwork
• Provides day-to-day office presence and support as needed.
• Contributes content for all CBT communications.

The Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre is searching for two full-time cooks for our fall and winter season. As members of our production team, these cooks will be involved in providing daily service to our students, researchers, and guests, as well as some special event production.

About us: The Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre (BMSC) is a shared satellite campus of five universities, operating educational programs from approximately February 1st to December 15th each year. BMSC is located on the west coast of Vancouver Island in the beautiful and remote village of Bamfield, British Columbia. Our kitchen provides healthy innovative meals for our student and research clientele as we strive to provide a "from scratch" culinary experience. The kitchen at BMSC is well equipped, clean, and fully functional to provide three meals a day for up to 150 diners.

 

Qualifications

A Red Seal is always preferred, FOODSAFE and Valid BC Driver's license are required.  A sound background in all aspects of kitchen operation is a strong asset. We also welcome candidates with experience in catering production. These positions require a strong personality, the ability to take direction clearly and a desire to be a positive, reliable member of our crew. Cooks are responsible for daily breakfast, lunch and dinner production in our unionized work environment.

Qualifications

SKILLS AND ABILITIES NEEDED

  • Able to read, write and underrstand English and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to learn routines related to food service and assisting in food preparation and cleanup
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationship with staff, clients and students
  • Knowledge of good personal hygiene standards and in good physical health. Must be prepared to take a medical examination.
  • Able to operate standard kitchen appliances and equipment.
  • FoodSafe Level 1 Certification.
  • Valid BC Drivers License
  • Willing and able to work all shifts, including weekends, as required.

Summary

The Child Care Manager reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the ʔiihmisuk t̕aatneʔis (Treasure Our Young Ones) Child Care Centre. The Child Care Manager, reporting to the Executive Director, is responsible for developing, planning and implementing an Aboriginal culturally based child care program, working effectively with staff, Elders, families and children, and Friendship Centre staff. The Manager will develop relationships in the Aboriginal and early childhood communities, mentor students and undertake the administrative responsibilities related to the day-to-day operation of the Child Care Centre.

The Child Care Manager is responsible for providing leadership and guidance in a culturally based program that encourages healthy development in children’s mind, body, spirit and health.

Specific Duties

1. Overall

  • Maintain a safe and healthy learning environment for children and their families where families feel welcome.
  • Regularly contact and act as a resource for parents and caregivers.
  • Encourage and support parental, Elder and community involvement in the Child Care Centre.
  • Maintain adequate liaison with the appropriate agencies, professional associations and other child care programs in the community.
  • Be knowledgeable, informed, and current on Aboriginal early childhood learning and care philosophy and best practices.

2. Develop and implement a culturally based program for young children 

  • Plan and implement a culturally based program and activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual needs of the children in the program.
  • Ensure adequate equipment and activities.
  • Ensure equipment and the facility are clean, well maintained and safe at all times
  • Provide weekly and monthly schedules of activities.
  • Establish policies and procedures including acceptable disciplinary policies, emergency procedures.
  • Develop after school care programs for older children.

3. Supervise and support child care Centre staff

  • Manage child care staff resources effectively to ensure that all staff work as members of a team, have input into planning and have opportunities for improving their professional skills.
  • Provide coverage for absent child care staff as required.
  • Participate in staff recruitment as requested.
  • Supervise, coach and encourage staff.
  • Prepare staff schedules.
  • Lead staff meetings.
  • Evaluate staff performance.
  • Support training and development opportunities.

4. Manage the administration of the child care program

  • Enroll children and orient families to the child care program.
  • Support parents in subsidy applications as required.
  • Keep parents informed of program expectations, program activities and their child’s progress.
  • Ensure compliance with BC’s Child Day Care Regulation and Standards of Practice.
  • Develop and maintain current, accurate and confidential child files, ensuring that adequate records are maintained.
  • Be aware of and monitor the child care budget.
  • Receive and record child care fees.
  • Work closely with PAFC administration to insure that all government forms are prepared and delivered.

5. Supervise children in the child care Centre

  •  Ensure children are supervised at all times.
  •  Provide and support language and cultural experiences and activities for children involving Elders and community members, including food, songs, games and storytelling.
  •  Provide opportunities for sleep and rest time.
  •  Establish routines and provide positive guidance.
  •  Implement positive discipline when required.
  •  Clearly and effectively communicate in a manner that children understand.

6. Perform other related duties as required by the Executive Director of the Friendship Center.

 

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Formal training in Early Childhood Education/Development, Child and Youth Care with an infant and toddler certificate or equivalent, with a BC Five Year Early Childhood Educator Certificate.
  • Three to five years’ experience in the child care profession, including supervisory experience.
  • Three to five years’ experience in an Aboriginal community, working with children and families
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and initiative
  • Creative problem solving skills
  • Computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs
  • Knowledge of Nuu-chah-nulth history and culture is an asset
  • Awareness of social issues affecting First Nations and non-First Nations children
  • Knowledge of recreational, social and life skills, and parenting programming and activities relevant to First Nations

MANDATORY:

  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and have a reliable vehicle that can be used for work.
  • Must provide Criminal Record Check and Drivers Abstract upon selection,
  • Must be available to travel and be flexible in hours,
  • Early Childhood Educator and/or Infant/Child First Aid Certificate mandatory
