Summary

The Early Childhood Educator reports to the Childcare Manager and will be part of a team that will plan and implement a culturally based child care program that is designed to give each child an opportunity to participate in experiences that will enable them to reach their full potential. The ECE will provide nurturing care and education to young children from infancy to preschool age in a group setting, supporting parents through on going communication about each child’s development. The ECE will work collaboratively with other child care staff, Elders, families and children. 

Specific Duties

  • Responsible for the continuous supervision, safety and well-being of the children.
  • Recognizes and responds to the needs of each child by using developmentally appropriate teaching and child behaviour management techniques.
  • Shares in the responsibility for planning, preparing and implementing stimulating, culturally based, age-appropriate activities that encourage children’s creativity and learning and promote each child’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical development.
  • Participates fully and consistently as a conscientious team member in caring for the children and in the overall operation of the program and Centre; maintains regular and open communication with program team members and all other co-workers.
  • Establishes and maintains regular communication with parents.
  • Ensures the program operates at all times in compliance with all child care licensing standards.
  • Must know and implement: Centre routines and practices; BC’s Child Day Care Regulation and Standards of Practice.
  • Observes and records relevant information on each child's progress as required/as per Centre practices.
  • Attends and participates actively in all program/Centre, parental or other meetings as required.
  • Shares responsibility for maintaining program equipment in good repair; assists with toy/equipment disinfecting.
  • Shares responsibility for maintaining the play environments and storage areas in an organized and clutter-free condition. Participates in regular fire drills and other emergency procedures.
  • Engages in positive collaboration with the other programs and early childhood educators of the Centre in coordinating the effective use of equipment, facilities and personnel.
  • Participates in ongoing professional development and attends/maintains all mandatory training.
  • Participates in the supervision, training and mentoring of students and supply teachers.
  • Assists the Child Care Manager in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by promptly reporting any existing and/or potential workplace hazards.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Child Care Manager or her/his designate.
Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Early Childhood Education/Development certificate or diploma, with a BC Five Year Early Childhood Educator Certificate
  • Three to five years’ experience in the child care profession and/or an Aboriginal organization or community working with children and families.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and initiative Creative problem solving skills Computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs
  • Knowledge of Nuu-chah-nulth history and culture is an asset
  • Awareness of social issues affecting First Nations and non-First Nations children
  • Knowledge of recreational, social and life skills, and parenting programming and activities relevant to First Nations

MANDATORY:

  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and have a reliable vehicle that can be used for work.
  • Must provide Criminal Record Check and Drivers Abstract upon selection,
  • Must be available to travel and be able to work flexible hours,
  • Infant/Child First Aid Certificate

Summary

The Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ Government has a new career opportunity for an Indigenous Wellness Counsellor. The Indigenous Wellness Counsellor will provide a range of mental health and addiction services to individuals, couples and families, including children, youth and adults. This position works within the context of a client-centered, family centered and community-based perspective.

The Indigenous Wellness Counsellor will provide direct clinical services such as intake, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and group work and crisis intervention for individuals, couples and families.  The successful candidate will work collaboratively by consulting with community agencies, schools, hospitals, and other programs as well as prepare educational materials, tools and facilitate educational sessions.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/TRAINING/CERTIFICATION

  • Masters in Social Work, Educational Counselling, Clinical Psychology or Child and Youth Care or comparable graduate degree at the Master’s level, or equivalent.

• Work with Law Clerk to develop and implement a RIM policy for all employees, elected officials, contract and others that provide services to HFN.
• Prepare correspondence, reports, statements and other material as directed.
• Provide support to committees as assigned (minutes, motions, meeting logistics)
• Ensure the preparation and distribution of records for committee meetings: prepare agendas, distribute materials through the Law Clerk.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Operational Requirements:
• Valid class 5 driver’s license.
• Some travel, including overnight and or weekends.
• Position requires successful applicant to work part-time from our Anacla location.
• Willingness and ability to work overtime, including evenings and weekends.
• Successful backgrounds check, including employment verification, reference checks, and education/credential verification.

Education and Experience Requirements:
• Grade 12 Education.

Job Summary: Performs maintenance and repairs related to buildings, Grounds and equipment, in one or more areas such as electrical, plumbing, painting and grounds-keeping.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Establishes, monitors, and carries out preventative maintenance procedures and schedules for buildings, equipment and grounds. Ensures building and equipment meet all safety, security and fire regulations and policies. Makes recommendations for major repairs and purchases to supervisor.
2. Performs carpentry, electrical, painting, mechanical and plumbing maintenance and repairs such as repairing furniture, constructing shelves, installing switches, replacing plugs and other basic appliance repairs, applying paint and other finishes, repairing drywall, disassembling and reassembling equipment, replacing sinks and toilets and applying finishing material such as linoleum.
3. Monitors work performed by contractors, prepares estimates of labour and material costs, contacts external contractors and trades people to obtain quotes and arranges for major repairs and maintenance work.
4.Collects and removes garbage and recyclable materials and ensures the safe disposal of hazardous waste.
5. Cleans external areas such as entranceways, sidewalks and parking lots using manual and power brooms, rakes, shovels and other equipment to remove dirt, leaves, snow and other refuse. Performs minor gardening and lawn maintenance tasks such as mowing, weeding, pruning and watering. Cleans internal areas of the building such as hallways, building floors and windows, stairwells, washrooms and office areas.
6. Completes and maintains related records such as maintenance logs and security incident reports.
7. Transports equipment, furniture and supplies manually and/or using aides such as dollies and carts. Operates a motor vehicle to pick up and move goods and supplies. Arranges furniture for special events.
8. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications, Education and Knowledge:

 Grade 10, plus related vocational training such as building maintenance course.

Training and Experience:
 Two (2) years recent related experience.
 Or and Equivalent combination of education, training and experience
 Criminal Record Check Required

About us: The Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre (BMSC) is a shared satellite campus of five universities, operating educational programs from approximately February 1st to December 15th each year. These positions require a strong personality, the ability to take direction clearly and a desire to be a positive, reliable member of our crew. Cooks are responsible for daily breakfast, lunch and dinner production in our unionized work environment.
