The Bereavement Services Counsellor works closely with the Hospice Services Coordinator and is responsible for the grief and bereavement programs.
Responsibilities Include (but are no limited to) :
- Assess and evaluate existing bereavement programs and education.
- Assist in the development of new education and support programs.
- Act as a liaison with other community agencies and support services.
- Provide ongoing bereavement counselling to families of hospice community clients, community referraks and Ty Watson House residents.
- Work with and assist the Hospice Services Coordinator to debrief and provide psychosocial support to volunteers and staff, residents and family contacts.
- Provide psychosocial assessment, support, information and education to meet the needs of residents and families.
- Maintain records and statistical data of all bereavement clients and programs.
- Assist the Hospice Services Coordinator when required with hospice volunteer training and education.
- Send designated mail outs during the first year of bereavement.
- Maintain confidentiality as outlined in the AVHS Policy Manual.
- Flexibility as a hospice team member to provide support and creativity in helping to meet the needs of clients, residents and families.
- Provide monthly written reports as required (eg. the Board and Annual General Meeting).
- Maintain an active commitment to professional development.
