Position Summary:
Seeking a dedicated, empathetic individual who is enthusiastic about people and creating community through growing food who will assist in increasing food production and opportunities at a therapeutic farm run by Canadian Mental Health Association – Port Alberni branch. This position will also be assisting the Gleaning Project in various capacities.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
Successful applicant will be responsible for assisting organizing the daily tasks associated with running a small-scale vegetable farm.
Activities will include marketing, engaging with public, facilitating some of the day to day activities for clientele coming out to the farm, crop succession planning.
Primary Objectives:
To assist the farm manager, increase the profile of the farm within the community, to streamline some of the current processes to improve efficiency, helping to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness while helping the region achieve food security targets.
Work Environment:
Work will be conducted primarily on the farm site which is either outside or in greenhouse. There is an office that can be made available should research work be done.

Our goal is to support those diagnosed with a mental illness in a low stress supportive environment that is inclusive, creates community, and grows delicious vegetables. Applicants should have good interpersonal skills and no prejudice towards those with a mental illness and/or addiction. Applicant should show leadership, teamwork, flexibility, good communication and initiative.
Education and Experience:
Must have been enrolled in full time education this past year with the intent of returning in the fall.
Physical Demands:
Must be physically fit and be comfortable in working outdoors.
