Our STV women’s counselling program provides individual counselling for women currently in or who have been involved in abusive relationships, are survivors of childhood abuse and/or are survivors of sexual assault. Counsellors assesses impacts on clients, determines group readiness if applicable, and provides support and one-on-one supportive counselling to women.
Provide one-to-one supportive counselling to women in crisis with a direct and proactive goal to provide safety, referral, immediate assistance and short-term service.
Skills:
One-on-one supportive counselling experience with sexually abused women
Knowledge of and experience in violence and sexual abuse trauma and behavioural outcomes
Flexibility and able to work with and refer to outside agency staff
Knowledge of community resources and services
Knowledge of vicarious trauma
Good boundaries and healthy in own life
Use of automobile not required
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work plus at least three years directly related experience; preferred feminist background.
Recent specialized training in trauma informed practice and /or abuse desired.
