Island Work Transitions, Inc. provides employment services to the communities in the Alberni Clayoquot region of Vancouver Island. We are searching for a Financial Office Assistant to provide Full Time support (35 hrs/wk.) for the Alberni Valley Employment Centre in Port Alberni.

Under the general direction of Island Work Transition, Inc. Managing Directors the Financial Office Assistant provides support to the Finance Manager:

  • Administers the financial system in order to ensure that the company and WorkBC Program finances are maintained in an accurate and timely manner
  • Processes supplier invoices and payroll
  • Ensures transactions are properly recorded and entered into the Simply Accounting system
  • Maintains financial files and records
  • Maintains the accounts payable and accounts receivable systems in order to ensure complete and accurate records of all transactions
  • Supports in the delivery of Administrative functions, including: Janitorial, Insurance, Office Equipment maintenance, Office Supplies, Equipment and Furniture Inventories, Security systems, Telephone and Fax services, etc.
Qualifications 

Education Requirements:

  • Diploma or Certification in Bookkeeping or Business Administration, and a minimum 3 years practical work experience is preferred
  • Minimum Grade 12, with considerable life experience including transferable interpersonal skills

Experience:

  • Must have experience with Simply Accounting
  • Considerable knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices
  • Working knowledge of office methods and procedures
  • Ability to apply general bookkeeping principles in the recording of revenue and expenditures
  • Ability to expedite a voluminous flow of detailed work
  • Ability to make arithmetical calculations with speed and accuracy
  • Visual ability in reading and using a large volume of written and numerical data
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office software including, Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook
  • Proficiency in the use of spreadsheets, data bases and ability to learn new systems
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees
  • Excellent customer service skills and strong interpersonal communications

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Provide an updated Criminal Records Check which includes a Vulnerable Sector
  • Security and Privacy Training (will be provided)
  • Provide proof of Educational Certifications
