Westcoast Community Resources Society is a charitable organization which shares the community’s vision that every member’s well-being is ensured. We have a number of ministry funded programs providing free and confidential services to community members on the west coast. We are currently seeking a permanent full time Stopping the Violence Counsellor to provide individual and group counselling to self identifying adult women who have experienced violence in their lives.

As the Stopping the Violence Counsellor, you will be responsible for developing and providing individual and group sessions to support those who have experienced historical violence, sexual assault, and domestic violence. Travel between the west coast communities of Tofino and Ucluelet is required. This position is open to female applicants only. Union membership is required.

Qualifications 
  1. A Degree in counselling or psychology, or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  2. Proven post graduate training and practice in counselling.
  3. One to three years’ previous counselling experience in a stopping the violence, client-centered feminist, or similar environment.
  4. Experience working for a non-profit organization is preferred.
  5. Full & valid BC. Driver’s License, own vehicle in good working condition and appropriate insurance.
  6. Proficient trauma informed and strength-based counselling skills.
  7. Awareness of inherent power imbalances in our society. 
  8. Ability to promote understanding of the trauma response and guide in clients’ healing journey.
  9. Ability to promote understanding of the cycle of violence and skill development to healthy relationships.
  10. Ability to integrate intersectional feminism into everyday practice.
  11. Awareness of and willingness to work on own personal issues and triggers to ensure clients receive unbiased support.
  12. Awareness of current knowledge & legislative changes that affect clients’ rights.
  13. Ability to work autonomously and collectively in a variety of environments.
  14. Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  15. Exemplary interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  16. Successful criminal record check
  17. Level 1 first aid with CPR
  18. Non violent crisis intervention training or mental health first aid preferred
