
The School
Ucluelet Elementary School is a K-7 school situated in the beautiful town of Ucluelet. Ucluelet Elementary School enrolls approximately 223 students.
The School Principal
Preferred candidates will have successful formal school leadership experience in elementary or middle school settings, as well as strong, positive interpersonal skills and recognized involvement in building effective school and community relations. Candidates will show a commitment to improved achievement for all learners, including the ability to engage staff in the creation of a professional learning community that considers research, best practice, and student data to guide instruction and to develop school plans. The Principal is hired to the District and will be placed initially at Ucluelet Elementary School. Future placement may include a transfer to a different Westcoast school (Ucluelet or Tofino) or to a school in the Alberni Valley dependent on District need and administrator qualifications.
Key qualities, attributes and experiences include:
• Proven track record of exemplary teaching/leadership with current educational trends and best practice
relating to instruction and assessment, emphasizing best practice in literacy and numeracy instruction
• Knowledge of and successful implementation of effective programs that reflect the cultural and academic
needs of Indigenous students.
• Knowledge of and experience with social and emotional learning, mental health, and well-being research
and curriculum
• Ability to develop fair and effective student behaviour support systems.
• Knowledge of and experience in effective ways to use technology as tools to enhance student learning
• Strong personal and professional vision
• Interest in, and, ideally, experience with ‘out of the box’ thinking with respect to developing programs that
meet the needs of students living in a rural, outdoor centered community
• Visible commitment to life-long learning and professional learning
• Demonstrated ability to support and maintain a safe and caring school environment through caring
relationships and positive behavioural intervention supports
• Demonstrated focus on school improvement and staff development with intentional coherence between
the school growth plan and the district strategic plan
• Knowledge and understanding of the First Peoples Principles of Learning and commitment to improving
school success for Indigenous students
• Demonstrated commitment to building student voice and agency within school
• Effective decision-making processes that build consensus, commitment, and collaboration

Qualifications
• A valid British Columbia teaching certificate
• Completion of or significant progress towards a Master’s Degree in education or related field
• Successful teaching experience in a elementary school setting
