POSITION OVERVIEW

Lady Rose Marine Services is seeking a qualified Watchkeeping Mate (near Coastal) or Chief Mate (150GT Domestic) for the upcoming summer season. The MV Frances Barkley is a critical lifeline in the Barkley Sound, providing essential passenger, freight, and mail services between Port Alberni, Kildonan, and Bamfield.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Certificate of Competency: Watchkeeping Mate (Near Coastal) OR Chief Mate, 150 GT (Domestic).
• Medical: Valid Transport Canada Marine Medical
• Safety: Basic Safety & Proficiency in Survival Craft
• Radio: ROC-MC (Marine Commercial) Radio Operator Certificate

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Navigation: Maintain safe bridge watches and navigation through the Alberni Inlet.
• Operations: Supervise the safe loading, stowage, and unloading of freight and mail.
• Safety: Assist the Master in conducting safety drills and maintaining vessel equipment
• Service: Provide professional interaction and local information to passengers.

SCHEDULE

• Core Days: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday
• Summer Peak: Sunday sailings added during July and August.
• Hours: Start 06:00; till 17:00-18:00
