Elder Resource

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible to coordinate, assist and provide cultural support to the Community Service staff and Tla-o-qui-aht Community Members
• Must be available to take lead in ceremonial healing practices
• Share and gather traditional plant and spiritual medicines information for Tla-o-qui-aht Members
• Identify traditional healers and if necessary refer clients
• Assist with Tla-o-qui-aht member that are in crisis.
•  Bridge traditional teaching healing practices and western counselling practices
• Support Tla-o-qui-aht members as requested
• Facilitate healing ceremonies for families
• Demonstrated interest and knowledge of Tla-o-qui-aht History, language, and culture.
• Excellent cross-culture communication skills
• Proven judgement and discretion in dealing with confidential and sensitive matters.
• Elder resident for representation for programs happening in our Tiic-Mis-Aq’kin Health Centre or in our communities.
• Abide by Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation Confidentiality Agreement
• Adhere to Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation Personnel Policy
