The Youth Leader will organize projects for the Youth of Opitsaht, Ty-Histanis and Esowista. This person needs to be a self-starter and outgoing to work with Tla-o-qui-aht youth and families. This position reports to the Education Manager. They will be part of a team that will plan and implement a culturally based youth activity. The hours will be flexible to facilitate community programming.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Organize projects and programs for age appropriate for youth in Opitsaht/Tyhistanis/Esowista
  • Provide recreational and supportive activities to program participants
  • Group facilitation planning and collaboration with internal and external resources
  • Understand the demographics, social issues, needs and strengths of persons served and to update this understanding with additional training as required
  • Flexible hours (evenings and weekends) supervision, overnight camping
  • Complete necessary paperwork expectations and ensure that standards are maintained.
  • Strong work ethic
  • Knowledge of TFN Values and culture an asset
  • Mentorship
  • To lead youth programming 3-4 nights a week and one weekend a month – vary from 3:30 to 8:30pm
  • Planning will involve separate groups during week; Boys, Girls, 7-9-year-old kids, teens
Qualifications 
  • Two or more years of related experience
  • Strong skills in communication (written and verbal) and facilitation
  • Self-motivated
  • Organization
  • Maturity
  • Reliability, Responsibility, and Resilience
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle an asset
  • Class four will be considered an asset
  • Provide Criminal Record Check, (at time of hire)
  • Experience working with youth as asset
