Pacific Rim National Park Reserve currently has employment opportunities for youth (15-30 years of age) in the following areas:

  • Invasive Vegetation Management & Monitoring Technician
  • First Nation Jr. Liaison - “Honouring Hahuuli” 
  • Trails Crew/General Works & Maintenance Workers
  • Visitor Facilities Attendant (Janitorial)
  • Visitor Services Attendant
  • Administrative Assistant

The Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS) is a Federal Government jobs initiative targeted at young Canadians aged 15 to 30. The purpose is to increase employment for youth, enabling them to gain work experience, to develop skills, and to extend their networks.  The YESS is intended to serve all youth, but with particular focus on serving youth facing barriers and under-represented youth. 

Invasive Vegetation Management & Monitoring Technician - Natural and Cultural Resource Conservation Support

  • Work with a Parks Canada historian to review research summaries and prepare properly formatted footnotes
  •  Assist with ecological restoration by removing invasive vegetation using landscape equipment such as trowels, shovels, rakes etc.
  •  Perform field work in all weather conditions.
  •  Learn to identify various species at risk and critical habitat.
  • Use GPS and assist with land surveys using total stations, RTK GNSS and RPAS (drones).
  • Record detailed data onto paper or interactive forms, transcribe/transfer data into spreadsheets and databases, and edit/update existing computer mapping (GIS) interfaces.

First Nation Jr. Liaison - "Honouring Hahuulii"

  • Youth representative to assist the First Nations Senior Liaison and First Nations in the development of Indigenous-led park visitor products.
  • Support priority signage projects with First Nations partners.
  • Preference for this placement will be given to Indigenous youth.

Trails Crew/General Works & Maintenance Workers

  • Participate in general maintenance and labour services working on trails, grounds, roads and solid waste management and related facilities maintenance.
  •  Work with a variety of hand tools and power tools used in construction and facility maintenance.
  •  Work with landscape equipment such as weed eaters, handsaws, chainsaws, etc.
  •  Participate in other general maintenance and repair requirements as directed.

 Visitor Facilities Attendant (Janitorial)

  • Cleans and maintains Green Point Campground and Day-use buildings, facilities throughout the Long Beach Unit.
  •  Facilities include: campground washroom and shower facilities, day-use area washroom and outhouses and other facilities.
  •  Interaction with visitors to provide basic information and directions.

Visitor Services Attendant

  • Welcome Visitors and help visitors discover the natural beauty of the national park reserve.
  • Working as front-line staff to provide information and orientation on our programs, services, features, regulations, safety and wildlife messaging, and facilities to visitors whether it is in person, over the phone or electronically.
  • Part of your main duties will be to collect fees, issue permits and sell products in a fast-paced work environment. You will perform cash, credit and debit transactions, complete sales reports, stock inventory, maintain/clean facilities, compile information, create reports, respond to emails, provide feedback, and record statistical data. You will use a reservation system, a point-of-sale system and a computer.
  •  Rotate between different facilities/campground and perform compliance rounds throughout the national park reserve

Administrative Assistant

  • Take Inventory and record listing of surplus assets and other goods (this may involve taking photos and following the disposal requirements process).
  • Prepare all documents related to disposals of goods and disposal of financial records.
  • Provide documents to Asset manager and/or Finance manager for review, and approvals.
  • Move financial record boxes to be in order for the disposal that will be arranged with a shredder.
  • Computer inventory-update current inventory listing and verify existing computers and monitors.
  • Provide data entry services for Assets and/or Finance as needed.
