Ucluelet Brewing Co. is an award-winning community brewery with a small, tight-knit team committed to quality and inclusivity.  As Assistant Brewer, you will report to the Head Brewer and assist with all beer related jobs.

From grain to glass, milling to packaging, the ideal candidate will have a hand in the entire process and be committed to learning about brewery operations and maintaining a clean and safe work environment.  Note that this position is FT most of the year (minimum 9 mnths) but may drop to PT (3 days/wk) in the quiet season.  We are willing to extensively train the right, committed person.

 

Daily duties and responsibilities:

The right person will assist the Head Brewer with all brewery tasks although this will depend on experience and willingness to learn:

  • Operation, cleaning, sanitization, organization & general maintenance of:
    • Packaging equipment (canning and kegging lines), brewhouse and cellar, tanks, hoses, other equipment, draft system and lines
  • Milling, mashing, boiling, heat exchange & transfers, fermentation management,
  • Fermentation monitoring, yeast management, dry hopping, transfers, CIP’s, carbonation, quality control, record keeping
  • Kegging, canning, labelling, keg washing, line cleaning & maintenance
  • Draft system maintenance and cleaning
  • General cleaning and organization
  • Pallet unloading & delivery help
  • Assisting with spent grain disposal
  • Event work (Beer festivals, local markets)
  • Setup, operation, take down of jockey box and event tent
  • Follow company standard operating procedures and employee conduct policies
  • Safe use of brewery chemicals
Qualifications 

 

Requirements:

  • Excellent attitude & passion for craft beer are a must!
  • Minimum of 1 year brewing experience
  • Brewing related education is an asset
  • Willing to relocate to the West Coast (if not already a local), we currently DO NOT have staff accommodation available but will after the summer.
  • Positive, punctual and upbeat attitude
  • Capable of taking direction and able to work varied shifts if required
  • A desire to learn and grow within the craft brewing industry
  • Ability to stand on your feet for an entire shift
  • Ability to work through repetitive tasks
  • Physically fit and able to carry 25 kg (50lbs) on a regular basis, as well as being able to work in tight physical spaces
  • Ability to work in environments of varying temperatures (cold fridge, hot brewery)
  • Ability to focus on details, manage time, and multi-task in a busy environment, both independently and as part of a team
  • Self-starter who’s able to work independently and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
  • Aptitude for troubleshooting and problem solving
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Previous experience working with chemicals/ WHIMIS certification an asset
  • Serving it Right, Level 1 First Aid
