Position: Resource Centre Advisor

Island Work Transitions Inc. (IWT)  provides WorkBC Employment Services to communities in the Alberni-Clayoquot region, as a subcontractor to Central Vancouver Island Job Opportunities Building Society (CVIJOBS) in Parksville-Qualicum.

We are currently seeking a part-time candidate to fill the important position of a Resource Centre Advisor in our Tofino location. The successful candidate will need to be available Monday (9:30 - 5:30), Wednesday  (8:30 - 4:30),  Friday (8:30 - 4:30), and available for occasional shifts at our Ucluelet office on Tuesdays and Thursdays (not required, but would be ideal). 

As a Resource Centre Advisor, you will provide quality customer service, guidance and assistance to clients accessing employment services who require one on one assistance in our self-serve resource centre. In this centre, clients are provided with space, tools and technology to focus on their job search activities at their own leisure, while having professional, friendly staff available to assist when needed.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Welcoming, registering and assessing client needs
  • Referring clients to Employment Counselling for Training, Wage Subsidy, Self-Employment and Job Creation Partnership needs
  • Providing instruction and direction to clients regarding the resources, and how to use them, including: on-line tools, resume and job search resources and training and career planning tools
  • Critiquing clients’ self-marketing tools and referring to appropriate Employment Counselling resources within the Centre
  • Coaching individual clients on an as-needed basis
  • Responding to client/employer enquiries and providing assistance as required
  • Building rapport with employers
  • Maintaining current knowledge on community services
  • Marketing services and job opportunities on social media 
  • Keeping up with new developments within local and regional labour market and available training programs, and distributing this information to clients
  • Maintaining a library of current job postings
  • Providing technical support regarding the use of computers, video monitors, facsimile machines, photocopier, etc.
  • Liaising with other community partners to ensure seamless service delivery to clients
Qualifications 

Requirements

  • Grade 12 completion
  • Must have a clean criminal record, and be able to work with vulnerable people
  • Experienced in providing great customer service and assisting in resolving client issues
  • Comfortable and confident in assisting clients with complex barriers and a broad range of cultural backgrounds
  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft Word, email, internet navigation and data entry
  • Highly developed written communication skills to assist with the creation, editing and proofreading of professional quality resumes and cover letters
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and assertive communication; must be able to professionally deal with challenging client behaviours in a calm, empathetic, and respectful but firm manner
  • Formal education or previous work in a related industry such as social services, human resources, education or career counselling an asset
