EDUCATION AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: This exciting education and employment opportunity will provide a candidate, upon successful completion, with an Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) certificate and permanent, full time employment at the Community Children’s Centre in the Child Care Worker position. The District of Tofino’s Community Children’s Centre is a licensed childcare facility offering group care for children aged 30 months to school age. The ECEA program will be completed through the Pacific Rim Early Childhood Institute’s and is delivered in an online format. The cost of tuition and related requirements will be paid by the District of Tofino. Upon successful receipt of an ECEA certificate and related prerequisites, a full-time, permanent position as Child Care Worker will be available at the Community Children’s Centre. The hourly rate for a Child Care Worker with an ECEA certificate is $23.53 and is subject to a probationary period during which time the hourly wage will be $21.18. This position offers a competitive benefits and pension package and is subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between CUPE Local 118 and the District of Tofino. 

Qualifications 

Applicants interested in pursuing this opportunity do not require any certifications, however they must meet the minimum entrance requirements for registration at Pacific Rim Early Childhood Institute.

  •  Admission Interview indicating suitability for the program
  •  Official Transcript indicating successful completion of: 
  1.  Grade 12 English or equivalent course;                            
  2.           or  any Canadian university-level English course;
  3.           or  any English Assessment indicating English proficiency equivalent to successful completion of                                              Grade 12 English from a recognized university or college.
  •  Two letters of reference indicating suitability to be an Early Childhood Educator (current within a year)
  •  Government issued photo ID such as a driver’s license. Students must be 19 years of age prior to starting a full-time program.
  •  A criminal record check (current within a year) indicating that no criminal record is found for the purpose of working with children.
  •  A declaration of health declaring suitability and capacity to be an Early Childhood Educator. The successful candidate must meet the following requirements before employment will be offered with the District of Tofino:
  •  Proof of valid Child Safe First Aid certificate (District will also provide this training if needed)
  •  Criminal Record Check Clearance (paid for by the District)
  •  Doctor’s note assuring physical and mental ability to work with children
  •  Immunization history
  •  Two written character references
