Casual Kitchen Assistants

Shifts start at 8 am in the morning weekdays and 9 am on weekends – 4 to 6 hours per shift

Applicants must be available for some weekend work. 

Duties include but are not limited to:

1. Assist in planning meals that use available donated food.
2. Prepares breakfast and a nutritious lunch each day and may work extra hours occasionally to prepare meals for special events.
3. Works with volunteers who assist with and serve breakfast.
4. Maintains kitchen records.
5. Keeps the kitchen environment safe, orderly, and clean to the standards of the Health Authority; attends Health Authority and fire inspections.
6. Ensures that temperature standards for food and serving facilities are adhered to.
7. Is responsible for cleanliness of the kitchen, dining room, and for sorting and removing trash, recycling, and compostable material.
8. Assist with dishwashing and sanitizing

Experience, education, training and other requirements

1. No previous experience is necessary but an aptitude for cooking is an asset.
2. Criminal check required.
3. Food Safe 1 certificate.
4. Must be able to lift heavy items and work standing for entire shift.
