Associate Optometrist/Doctor of Optometry

We are looking for a part-time associate interested in a work hard, play hard lifestyle. We require someone to work in our busy office Thursdays and Fridays (willing to participate in our Tuesday Team Meetings). The rest of the week is yours to discover our lovely Island or take a short trip to Vancouver to get your taste of the city whenever you need time away from the tranquility. Are you a new Optometrist looking for an exciting opportunity to learn from a progressive doctor with a large variety of cases while enjoying the Coast or are you a mature Optometrist seeking the opportunity for family/work balance in one of the most beautiful and affordable places in the Country? Either scenario might be the mutual fit we have been seeking. Based on our former associate's level of production an associate should be able to earn $75,000/year (on 2 days/week). We offer a guaranteed minimum of $350/day. We are a very busy office, known for our comprehensive medical care. We offer a well-established database of loyal, repeat patients that trust us for all their medical eyecare and contact lens needs.

About Port Alberni Port Alberni is a desirable location in the mid-Vancouver Island Region. We are a 2 hour drive from surfing on the West Coast, 1.5 hours from beachcombing on the East Coast, 1.5 hours from snowboarding north at Mount Washington, and 45 minutes away from the float plane terminal in Nanaimo to hop over to Vancouver or Seattle. We often think of ourselves as a “best kept secret”. Housing is affordable and we have access to all the amenities that nature enthusiasts are looking for. Whatever your outdoor passion is, you can fulfil it here: surfing, kiteboarding, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, swimming, etc… Our weather is pretty fantastic too. Although, like Vancouver, we are known for our gray and wet winters, we can also boast our lack of snow in winter and our gloriously hot summer in July and August. Overall, our climate can't be beat and we're often the envy of our neighbouring provinces. The Team We currently have 12 support staff and in our practice we run the “scribe model”. This involves our optometric assistants pretesting patients. The doctor is paged to the exam room once all the diagnostic testing is done. The optometric assistant stays in the room and then scribes for the doctor. An eyewear consultant is then paged to the room where the doctor “hands-off” to patient by reviewing spectacle and contact lens prescriptions, nutraceuticals, and any other recommendations.
